Competitions Discussion Thread Part 11

I've only started compling recently in the last week or so. I've noticed there there seem to be alot of competitions posted on here to win tickets for events. I hardly enter them because they are either too far away from me or something I have no interest in.
The other thing I wondered about were competitions run by local newspapers and radio stations etc. I was wondering if you can still enter even if you live nowhere near their catchment area? I've seen nothing in Terms & Conditions which disqualifies you but I was surprised that they don't to discourage compers from entering.0 -
Please can anyone explain something to me. If I want to post a link to a specific post in a thread, how do I do that? Say for example, I wanted to post a link to post #1024 in this thread? (Chose#1024 at random by the way - I don't even know what that number is).
Thanks.
i do it by right clicking on the post number and opening it in a new tab, then copy the url for that tab specifically. so your post above is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=34995139&postcount=1640 which should open just that one post (but seems like barnabysues way might be easier lol testing that here too its copy link location on firefox though not copy shortcut http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=34995139&postcount=1640 )queenofbargains wrote: »Sorry if the answer is here somewhere, but I've searched without luck!
Have had an email thro a legit site (Delia online), unless of course it's a scam, about a free trial to "Simply Prizes" magazine. The info at the end of this (very long and wordy) email is as follows:-

Does anyone here subscribe/know about it/ got info? I would really value your comments. I'm not a comper so don't know anything about this.
Thank you in advance!
i have vague memories of this being a paid for magazine years ago, think my dad subscribed for a year or two and never won a single thing. i may of course be remembering entirely wrongly (we are talking 15plus years ago) but i know others will know one way or another. personally i avoid anything like that, its free to subrscribe to the comps forum here and there are usually about 200 ew comps a day to enter, i dont ahve time to do that let alone add in any thing that would ultmately be paid for.Distorted_Vision wrote: »I've only started compling recently in the last week or so. you dont have to enter all the comps posted, so skipping ticket entry ones is fine. i know im selective about what i enter and often see th eword tickets and dont even read the rest of the title let alone open the page (unless its for dirty dancing lol), i know a lot of people do enter and do travel to go othe concerts/events and appreciate them being on here. not sure what your point was about them?
local comps tend to say in the terms if they are for cathcment area only, most are uk wide but some may have condition of collection form station/shop in area, or must live in certain postcode area....these details are normally posted in the comp thread if that is the case. personal choice really if you wnat to enter or not, they are presumably aimed at local cathchment area but then people might be visiting and listening and want to enter, or listen online etc if its a radio station but dont live in the area....0 -
Hi everyone
As a newbie (eek!) I'm unsure if this is posted in the wrong place - I'm sorry if this is the case.
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with sites such as 'instant win for now'? I notice there's similar sites around, but this is one I've come across today.
I'm a regular competition winner, although have only recently discovered this board - which is fab!
Many thanks for your help

I was a subscriber to this - but once I discovered MSE realised it was a waste of money. All the comps appear on here long before they do in their mag. They also have Coffee Break Winner and another comp site that they try and subsribe you up to as well. The Coffee Break Winner site is about £4 a month but basically all those comps are either the ITV ones or other text comps that cost £1.5 or £2.00 a pop. The other site (which for the life of me I can't remember) is an online website (that you need to pay for) but basically list the Magazine comps (Chat etc.) but each comp is listed separately and not all are listed - the layout here is much better. Personally I feel the simply prizes mag does not offer value for money - all comps are listed here free of charge :T. I also question the integrity of a company that claims to 'research' all comps before listing, when they include those dodgy bed company comp entries with their mag. Again can't remember the name of this bed company - target older people with poor backs and then try and sell them a bed worth thousands of pounds. This is a known 'con' and yet these fliers are regularly included with the mag. Basically I would save the monthly subscription and use the money towards stamps/postcards and send off for the postal comps listed here.
Just my own opinion though :rotfl:
Happy Comping - which ever method you use!!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Those sort of sites tend to generate more spam than prizes, I'm afraid.
I'll pm a board guide to move your question to the Competition Discussion thread where it belongs0 -
It's a little quiet in IWon!IWon!IWon! at the moment, and I'm kind of up to date with the comps I want to do for the next few days, so thought I'd ask a few questions (already asked before I'm sure)...
what is the rhythm of your coming day/week?
do you look forward to some days more than others for prize deliveries (i.e. do you think more prizes are delivered on a particular day of the week than others?)
do you keep some 'comping free' days?
just thinking about how I comp, and wondering how others do! I never really expect prizes on a Monday, and always try and have one or two days a week 'comping free', and lay off the comps for longer periods from time to time when I feel I've been spending too much time on them. I also spend way too much time reading the IWIWIW board! But I think I like to see other people winning as much as I like entering.
Any thoughts?0 -
I haves a little question. When a website has the option to create an account/log in but in their competitions they ask for your address details, is it safe to assume you don't need to log in to that website and just go ahead an enter the comps?
opinions would be most appreciated

I feel compared to most on here, I am a very disorganised . I try and keep upto date with my regular entries (ITV, Magazines and Postals) after that I am a bit haphazard/hit'n miss. I enter any that catch my eye when I have a moment - usually any prizes for the kids or a family holiday (still waiting on this one unfortunately). Sometimes if there is something I really really want I do a search and then enter all comps with the relevant prize. At the moment am hoping to win a DSi for my sons birthday in October......but that's as organised as I get.
I guess I miss loads, but have only been doing this consistently for a about 2 months and it is starting to pay off - over the past few weeks have had a win or 2 a week which is just enough to whet my appetite to carry on comping. Still waiting for a holiday or cash.....but tomorrow is another postal delivery day, so who knows!!
I do most of my comping in front of the tv once the kids are tucked up in bed......but tbh my ironing is suffering  - need to find new timeslot for this.

I wasn't really trying to make a point about them. It was just an observation and was surprised by how many of them. I was wondering though are your chances of winning them easier to win because less people enter?purplecatlover wrote: »i do it by right clicking on the post number and opening it in a new tab, then copy the url for that tab specifically. so your post above is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=34995139&postcount=1640 which should open just that one post (but seems like barnabysues way might be easier lol testing that here too its copy link location on firefox though not copy shortcut http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=34995139&postcount=1640 )

Morning all
Just wondering if you can help me I'm not sure where to post, I won 2 tickets yesterday to see the Sorcerors Apprentice preview screening in Leicester Square tomorrow morning. Unfortunately my 90 year old nan has been taken ill (again) and I can't make it.
I really dont want them to go to waste and thought I'd see if anyone on here wants them?
If this is the right place to post, can anyone who's interested PM me and I'll gladly pass on the info you need
Thanks
