Thank you WorkingHardDFW. I have started a spening diary (only last week!) and it has really made me think of what I'm spending. The problem at the moment is to get DH to write it down, or at least tell me! He takes cash out the cash point and then when I ask his where it's goen he doesn't know!!! Ah well, one step at a time!!!

  • My OH was like that and TBH still is at times. I got a receipt spike and just told OH to put any spending receipts on the spike. Every so often I would enter all the receipts into the SD. Quite simple but it worked for us which is what mattered. Our SP is into its 3rd year now and still going strong.

  • Hi Nelmer - welcome to the world of diaries. I only just started mine too and will add yours to my list of daily reading, reading others helps so very much. At least you know you are not alone............either with debt or DH who needs some work!

    Good Luck!

Started off well today, lunch for me, DH and DS done last night and out the door with the relevant person this morning. NSD so far for me!!!

Have to package up my items sold on ebay tonight and post tomorrow. Need to do the next round of decluttering in the loft and list the next lot.

DH spent a long time last night trying to convince me that we should move house this year......he clearly has no intention of facing upto our debts in the near future if he thinks that is an option. Ah well, round 2 this evening of me trying to open his eyes :)

Ebay sales packaged and ready to go.

Surprised at DH's turnaround this evening. He's planning the veg/fruit planting for the garden instead of talking of moving house...maybe I need to give him a bit more credit :D

He has plenty of growing experience from his youth as his parents used to grow all their own veg and he helped as a 'small lad' so we should be able to at least sustain ourselves over the summer and a little into winter if nothing else :T......here's hoping anyway!

I need to find the ARPs and list them however both CC's are just being switched to 0% which is a massive help
    :j
The emergency fund is not really emergency but more the pot building for the annual bills: 2 x mot's, 2 x car ins, house ins, etc etc etc then we can stop paying monthly with stupid aprs!

Feeling a bit of unrest this evening. DH and I are now proud owners of an allotment. A new one has opened not far from us and we signed up this evening.

I love the idea of an allotment and DH has wanted one for ages but I'm now worried he is going to spend loads on seeds, shed etc and the budget is going to be blown out of the water :(

I have persuaded him to just grow the free seeds I have ordered from links from on the greenfingered moneysaving area but I'm not sure how long he'll just stick to that.

I'm probably worring about nothing .... but thanks for reading :D

WHDFW - where do you get a receipt spike?!?! I'm liking this idea more and more and think it is the only way to really monitor DH's spends :D

End of the week and I'm feeling quite positive. No money has been taken out of the bank apart from the usual DD's, DH is all consumed with his allotment (spend £150  on wood for the shed and some plants but this was from money he was owed by his daughter so not out of the budget:)), I have a scrapbooking day all day tomorrow that will cost me a total of £5 (going to take stash I already have and a packed lunch...and no money! :D) and then sunday will be catching up with all the usual housework.

Redmadcurls has been challenged on her diary to list 100 things on ebay, that she finds in her house that she doesn't want anymore, that I like the sound of so am joining her but will do it over the course of next week.....roll on a few more pennies in the bank :rotfl:

Best make an attempt at some work really :o.

When I started this diary I thought it would help me on my DF journey and to stay on track....but I've still been kidding myself by not actually facing up to the problems that cause our debt and dealing with them.

The first problem I have to face up to is DH, while I was scrapbooking on Sat he went to B&Q and spent £180 :eek::eek: on 'essentials' for the new allotment. When I asked to see the essentials it included a new drill, he has 3 already but 'needed' another one as his current cordless batteries don't last long and to buy new is more expensive than a whole new drill. Our budget for this month was going so well and when I exploded about the overspend his answer was...."don't worry I put it on the credit card" aaarrrggghhh

I can't blame it all on him, while out today I bought a massive bag of maltesers to 'cheer myself up'. there was not need for these as
    a) does nothing for my diet
    b) there was chocolate in the cupboard at home
Off to update budget, start spending diary and speak to DH about 'essential' spend and discussions on big spends in the future....
