hi - I am looking to start a DMP and i am very impressed with all the positivity here. I recognise so many of my emotions played out in all these posts. As you have recently started - can you tell me how difficult it was to get started and what sort of info / paperwork was required? I am thinking of going with CCCS.
Thanks in advance0 -

DOH didnt think it was nearly April and the new financial year, had 3 phone calls today which have that gap when you pick up so I just hung up.
Gonna have to tackle Lloyds tomorrow about missing bank statements and the address they have been sending them to. not to worried about other creditors, next, cap one, ambrose wilson and very, bit an worried about taking on lloyds though....
Am I right in thinking that once this is in motion, the cccs deal with all and I can ignore, with in reason, correspondence from these people and only need to pass on info if it changes to different people, like being passed to a debt collection agency
...........sorry guys but as you will find out I do tend to rabbit on a bit ;o)
If your debt gets transferred to a DCA, you need to let CCCS know so that they can transfer the payment to the right company, other than that, just ignore unless it looks official.
What I did when I first started my dmp (if you feel brave enough!) was to ring each of my creditors once and explain the situation to them, that I was with CCCS, that they would hear shortly, gave them my dmp ref no. and said from this moment forward there was no point into entering into any further conversations with them, as they could see they were getting all I could afford and I would refuse to take bullying. Any further calls would go unanswered but would be noted and classed as harrassment. They ignored me as expected but I stuck to my word and after a while, reported them all and used their complaints system. I received loads of apologetic letters and most removed my number from their records...hence the silence since October 2008!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Hi
You'll probably need a payslip to send off, or proof of income, like benefits or child allowance etc. apart from that, can't recall needing to sending anything else.
CCCS will send you a pack with standard letters to send to your creditors whilst things are being set up and you'll probably need to send them £1.00 postal order in the meantime so that creditors know that you are not trying to avoid your debts.

Thanks for your quick response - don't they want to look at bank statements and stuff like that? I have been saving all my cc statements etc (which makes me feel ill every time I take them out of the drawer) I feel like a prize muppet for getting into this state but hopefully there is some light somewhere in the distance.0

Nope, they don't ask for bank statements. I just recall sending off payslip and proof of address like a utility bill.
It is scary to start with but it does get better. I'm single with a mortgage and managed to find myself with 28k of unsecured debt which is scary as I only have 25k on my mortgage! Was going to take me longer to clear my unsecured debt than to clear my mortgage and that is scary!
You are not a muppet in any way. the good thing is that you have recognised the problem and now want to deal with it - that takes a strong person and will make you an even stronger person. You'll also learn the value of money and the difference between "wants" and "needs" and if you want something, you save up for it and not use credit. Makes you appreciate things more too!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

well thanks again - I feel more empowered just having made the decision to take this route. I will keep on the forum and let you know how I go.
Cheers0 -
Please keep posting and let us know how you are getting on. There are people here in all sorts of different situations who can help through every step of the way. Even if you want to come on here just to have a good rant or cry, there is always someone who will listen and help.
CCCS have been great with me and I've cleared a fair bit in 2 years (11k - not as much a most but it's a good start) and I now owe less than my mortgage - still 17k to go but I'm determined to do it before I'm mortgage free in 5 years. It's worth riding the storm for a while. You will come out the other side and you'll feel a lot more positive soon.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
