DMP payer looking for friends. I know, sounds a bit limp doesn't it.

Hi there. I've been on a DMP since May 2008. From November 2004 to November 2009 my life repeatedly spun out of control as my health mysteriously deteriorated. The 6 months leading to the DMP... well let's just say I wouldn't have been surprised if I hadn't made it.
But here I am and it's 2010. So far I've paid £1505 of my debt leaving £20,088 to go in currently £80pm out of my various disability benefits. I changed my GP a couple of years ago, who has been well on the case identifying and treating chronic disorders ignored by my previous GP. I'm grateful he identified the kidney failure caused by inappropriate prescribing and although I'm in a serious condition, they operate at about 30%, it looks as if the condition can be managed and future deterioration delayed.
But as the spring comes, I'm surprisingly optimistic. It's a relief to come through this and know, have my finances under control and know my health is no longer getting worse.
Yeah, I'm broke. I know I won't be working again, I'm 57 and with my chronic arthritis, I'm hardly work fit. I've got to find a different way of living for the rest of my life. A couple of weeks ago I found I was still paying for an insurance policy on a loan that I defaulted on and my new GP is filling in the forms supporting me in a claim to have backdated payments from July 2005, which will clear over 50% of my debts. Today after talking to my bank, they refunded £60 of charges over the last couple of months when I had been too poorly to transfer money between my accounts and missing DDs.
After my next DMP payment in March, the amount I owe will be under the amount my life (and debts) are insured for in a PayPlan policy, so if at any time I die, my debts will be paid and my best friend will have the money for a funeral and be quids in for the balance. (She laughed about this, saying it's was worth to keep me going.)
So anyhow, although I've used MSE various times over the last couple of years, I haven't been able to participate. But I'm wondering if there are any other people who are muddling along with DMPs etc. who would like to join me, or invite me to join them. Only one of my friends knows the extent of my financial Armageddon and how I'm managing it with a DMP, and she's very proud of me for getting to grips with it and my commitment to repaying it in full.
But it would be great to hear how other are digging themselves out. Because my 'makeover' (feels more like a major renovation) 'how to live differently' was physical and emotional as well as was financial, I found Suze Orman's books very VERY helpful. I'd love to know what has helped you. And I'd love to feel that I'm not alone.
Hope I don't sound too much of a sad-do!

Hi
If you want a buddy you can count me in. Ive just started on the DMP process in January 2010 but still cant get my head around it. It would be nice to talk to someone as my partner doesnt know about my debts and having to keep it inside and not able to talk to anybody is taking its toll, so it owuld be nice to have a natter now and then.

You can adopt me too! I've been in my dmp since January 2008.
I'll be mortgage free in less than 5 years and intend to be debt free to by that time so I can work part time before I reach 50 and have a bit of a life.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

The truth of what made me sort my debts is that when I had my lightbulb moment and sorted everything, I had a major panic when I realised that my monthly debt repayments and my total unsecured debts came to more than my mortgage. Yikes!
Yeah, I'm lucky to have a small mortgage that I've never struggled with but the threat of putting my house at risk due to unsecured debts was scary!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I'll join the band of saddos:D.
My situation is much like Deep In Debts ( and we've fought the same people!) and this Forum and all the information and support it gives has been a lifeline.

Yes we have. One of the best bits was having our 'amended' 1st Credit website taken off the Forum:D

Hey and WOW!!! I've got a grin going ear to ear!!! Thanks guys.
Michelle45, It must be hard keeping this to yourself. Have you read any books by Suze Orman. She has some very interesting things to say about finance and relationships. Your situation cant be helping yours.
Pepe and DeepInDebt, what are the medals doing by your names?
I've just bought myself a treat! I'm eligible for free help for the forthcoming digital switchover and the £60 I've got back from the bank I decided would go for a HD freestat gizmo. I'm really excited about this.
So the next step is to get the money together for a HD ready TV, I've only got a little colour portable. Thanks to some builders who wrecked my flat last year.
Has anyone ever sold stuff on ebay? Someone told me if you're not careful you can end up giving it all back to ebay and paypal in fees. Any advice? Chillout5892
