why does that matter id dont tell you how to spend your wages so dont tell people on benefits how to spend there
I earn my money, therefore I can spend my wages how I like. People on benefits are provided that money as a safety net, not to allow them to gamble away hardworking taxpayers' money. Ideally we would have a food stamp system to ensure the money was not being spent wastefully.

  • I hate this kind of scenario because I couldn't just hand back the £30 and see the kind person who lent me the money get angry/upset. To me friendship is priceless so handing half the money over would come naturally to me. Surely there would be a time when the person lending you the money would need some help and i'd be so angry had she won and gave me just £30!
  • No, once the money has changed hands, it belongs to the person who now has it. It would be a nice sisterly bit of generosity if she did give her half, but it is not a legal requirement.

Well, I would be pretty pee-ed off with Jessica, squandering a whole quid on a scratchcard when it could have gone on a loaf of bread or something more useful. The offer of £100 is pretty reasonable but, if it had been me and my brother, I would have offered him a straight half and still been more than grateful with my £500 winnings.

Scratchcards are a mug's game. I was once in Sainsbury's, waiting in the foyer for my mum to finish her shopping. There was an elderly lady who'd bought £10-worth of scratchcards and was "doing them" there and then. There was one winning card, which netted her £3, all the rest were non-winners. The woman was absolutely thrilled and was delighted to go and claim her £3 winnings. It didn't seem to occur to her that she had actually still lost £7. Quite sad really.

So a straight 50/50 split from me - even though I don't necessarily have to; I'd want to share that stroke of luck with my brother.

If she is so short that she has to borrow money, what is she doing gambling it. She should share the prize and I certanly wouldn't lend her anything again

Let's ignore greedy Ashley! I think Jessica should pay for MSE Penelope to go for a few extra English lessons. Maybe one hundred quid would cover the cost of learning how to spell and punctuate the scratch card retailer correctly, e.g. newsagent's shop (singular noun possessive) or newsagent (singular) or newsagents (plural).:D

have you heard of elision? this is where you can miss out specifically saying a particular word, (in this case 'shop') as it is implied by the immediate context.

anyway, to get back to the point in question, i don't think technically ashley is entitled to more money, but if i were jessica, i'd be so grateful for the loan, i'd def give her more than £100...

This post reminds me of the current banking situation, they used the interest on our money to gamble. They then lost all our money and begged for tax money to bail them out. Now that they have made a bit of a profit (using our cash) they give themselves a big bonus, where is my share.

Your share is not paying the bank back the loan you took out with them :D

She's a bit skint and goes gambling on other peoples money!! She's taking the mick. Why would the sister want more than half the greedy cow.

Moral of the story...... Dont lend out your money it only causes problems (I know from many experiences)!!!

It does not matter really because Jessica must be a waster if she needs to borrow money and then spends it in Gambling. She will be back for more and Ashley can correctly point out her actions this time

we dont know that she's a waster we all get caught short from time to time
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

Lots of great points from all of you, and nearly all are valid.
However if Ashly hadn't loaned Jessica the money in the first case she wouldn't have anything at all.
In Jessicas position I would have split the money equally which would have made both sisters feel great:j
