It's just Ashley's bad luck as once the money is Jessica's it's up to her what she does with it. By the sounds of it Jessica is rubbish with money anyway wasting it on scratch cards when it was supposed to be for shopping. Ashley should just take the £100 and not lend money to Jessica again.

Let's ignore greedy Ashley! I think Jessica should pay for MSE Penelope to go for a few extra English lessons. Maybe one hundred quid would cover the cost of learning how to spell and punctuate the scratch card retailer correctly, e.g. newsagent's shop (singular noun possessive) or newsagent (singular) or newsagents (plural).:D

Poor Penelope, she is probably a Thatcher's child (born in the 80's) like myself and didn't get taught punctuation and grammar properly.

This was an episode of 'Due South' in the 90's, remember when Ray Vecchio bought the scratchcard and won and wouldn't give any to his sister?

Yep I remember this. I can't remember the outcome though and I've got the DVD and only watched this recently. I think they both ended up losing the money or Ray gave Franny some money because they nearly get shot or something.

Her sister was kind to lend her the money in the first place; she should share her good luck with her sister and she'll still be far better off.

    MSE Penelope is correct.

In MSE Penelope's case, the word "shop" is implied, therefore "newsagent's" is correct in her case.

You seem to be suggesting that Penelope should have put "newsagents", which would be incorrect, as one would assume they only went to one newsagent.

If I say "I'm going over to my sister's", the apostrophe is required as there's an implied word "house" at the end. "I'm going over to my sister's house". Saying "I'm going over to my sisters" would be incorrect.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

why does that matter id dont tell you how to spend your wages so dont tell people on benefits how to spend there

i take it that you are on benefits then? whilst there is no shame in using the state benefits system when in need, it is not there to fund peoples' gambling habits is it?
people often feel that they have a say in how benefits are spent because they are paying taxes to provide them. it is money for essentials not scratch cards and totally different to wages that are earned.

Took the words out of my mouth, so to speak. This is almost an example of Muphry's law...
  • Ashley didn't state there were conditions on what the money could be spent on, so she's lucky her sister is good hearted and includes her in the win. To loan £30 and then make 200% profit in such a short time - she should be grateful, especially when it would seem her sister is short of cash.

What would people be jealous of then? the original comment was made to point out that this person should be spending the pittance that they recieve on essential items not on scratch cards.:T
