Thank you for your help. I didn't have the confidence to try something else, so dispatched DH to Asda to buy some in the end (discovered I had no parsley either)!0

Anyone any ideas of a replacement for worcestershire sauce in this recipe? for the gravy? Needs to be veggie friendly. I was going to try soy sauce? I can't think what this tastes likeA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Hi zip,
I would agree with soy sauce and or a nip of brown sauce (sorry don't know if that's veggie or not) but it gives a similar flavour. As the recipe only asks for a dash you could probably get away with leaving it out altogether.

Cheers Pink! Had suspected soy sauce - just hope it's not lacking in flavour! I don't think it will be though. operation caramelise, here I comeA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I love that recipe Zippy - had it two nights ago! I made it without Worcestershire sauce and used a small dash of red wine - it's very forgiving.0

Ohhh fab!!! I seem to be having trouble with caramelising my onions! They have been in the pan since 7pm , are golden but don't taste fully caramelized to me! Im scared of burning them. Last time i made them i b urnt the second batch - would be gutted if that happened again
Any ideas? Maybe my taste buds have changed ? I gave up smoking since i made them so they might taste different..... There still seems to be a bit of liquid in the pan so im not convinced they're done.
Hmmm could i use a splash of white? Making it at his indoors house so depends what he has knocking around.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Gravy is my nemesis you see, hence my panic and distress!:D I've got meat gravy right but i have joints of meat so rarely - ie never - that I don't get practice. Veggie gravy is perfect in principle, just hope the taste is good!EEEKKKK! It's not often i get nervous about cooking something!!!:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I was going to suggest Hendersons Relish which is similar to worcester sauce but is veggie, until I saw your location.
