OS Daily Thread - Friday 26th February

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 26th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS lovelies,
smokeybabe - I hope you have a good day hon!
Mioliere - so glad you got your money back in the end.
Esmf - So sorry to hear about your Mother-in-law. Thinking of you all.
redruby - Glad you caught up on your sleep.
Cranky - I think it's great that George already knows about growing things.. I used to have my nephews help me in the garden from a really young age. They were aso allowed a planter each and could make a little scene up with grasses and mosses and alpine plants. They used ornamental tiny stones for a path and plastic toys if they wanted a little house or people in their 'garden' and even a little pond using a shallow dish and water.. they loved them!
Julie - we definitely need pics of the Easter Bunny when he/she is finished.
Taplady - I hope so too but he isn't doing so well not being able to breathe properly according to his sister.
rabbit - You don't have to answer everyone individually hon and I am sure noone thinks you are rude. I enjoy reading your posts.
Tru - I hope you managed to catch all the chicks! And well done you for putting your foot down with your young adults.
Ladyshopper - hope the pain gets better hon, shingles is really awful I know.
Sandy - I am so sorry about your darling cat, I would be heartbroken too.
Zippy -
Oh sweetie, I am so sorry you are having such a bad time but thank goodness for your mum huh? I remember how she spoilt you at Christmas and now she is showing her love with a new fridge. It's heartbreaking to waste food though I know. And never apologise for venting, it's partly why we are here!
Sunnyday - Mea culpa!!
But actually I did a good thing as now you are all organised and you will thank me in the summer when you are reaping the benefits!
Meanmarie - Well I have a 6ft 4inch OH with seemingly hollow legs so I am keeping the baking going so he can take things to work and not buy chocolate etc.
Haribo - Missing your posts - how are the chickens doing?

The peanut butter cookies went down so well I will have to make some more. Here is the link to my recipe for anyone who fancies them. My OT and the SW are coming for a meeting today so I might soften them up with copious cookies!
Breakfast is toasted Weetabix loaf,
lunch cream cheese and banana sandwiches and dinner will be the rest of the tuna quiche, with fried potatoes and baked beans.
I hope everyones day goes well. With love, light and warm gentle
for all.

Morning everyone!
How are you all today? Hopefully you'll have had a better night's sleep than me, the Zzzz didn't come easily!
DH got a phone call from work yesterday to say that they've not received his latest sick line which was due on 8 Feb. It was me that posted the thing and I know that I sent it. Had the foresight to scan it at work before I did, so he was able to send that to his line manager, but it's not enough for Payroll, so he's got to get a new one from the GP - deep joy!
We're supposed to be going off to the mainland this afternoon on the ferry, but it's been blowing a hoolie here through the night, probably another reason I'm awake just now! So, not sure if the boat will sail or not, time will tell.....
Trip away is for work reasons and DH is coming with me for a change of scene, as he's going up the wall being at home.
So, not sure what we'll be doing for lunch and dinner today - it all depends on the weather
I'm not sure what internet access will be like when I'm away, so I hope you all have a good weekend and that the weather is kind to you. According to the forecast, it looks as though March is coming in like a Lion!0 -
Morning.
Just back from 2 day business trip to Norwich and Oxford. Managed to clear up the jobs quickly and then visited some of the watering holes..... Try to find a place in Norwich to watch football and have a beer..... Seemed a challenge.
Good trip in all.
Supposed to be day off today, but will need to go to work for a few hours and do some paperwork.
Long weekend off, out for a meal at friends tonight.
Lots of chores today like clean chickens out, get groceries, clean up the old car for selling. etc....
Well have a nice day
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hello you guys
Just had to share with someone that I have just checked the bank after my pay went in,and the overdraft is nearly gone whoop whoop, only got a couple of hundred to clear now. When I checked back to the same time last year it was nearly 3k,so thank you to all the lovely people on here for advice etc,I could'nt have done it without cutting down on food and other os tricks so thanks again dudes.
Hope everyone has a lovely day blessings m x0 -
Morning.
Need coffee on tap today. DS was up again until 1am, eventually complaining that his ear hurts. He always has a lot of wax and was prone to a lot of ear infections as a toddler so I hope this isn't the start of another one. He made the same complaint the night before and was really "twitchy" in his body. I need to google a gentle method of cleaning his ears, I normally do the outside bit with a cotton bud but he hates me going near him with them
Mindee today so not much OS going on. Again.
Don't seem to be living the OS lifestyle much at the moment.
Me and H are supposed to be going out tonight. Hope we're not so tired that were going to fall sleep where ever we are going :rotfl: As such no cooking for me for tea
Smokeybabe - Happy Birthday  Have a wonderful day
nessie - don't you just hate it when stuff goes missing in the post grrrr. Enjoy your work trip - nice that your H is coming with you
I did that once with my H. He had a few days working in London so they booked a double room and I went down with him (pre kids of course) and I spent my time mooching and being a typical tourist on my own!
Better get a move on now.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS Or not.
Edited to add:
Well done Wilbur :T MSE is fabulous

Good Morning Everyone
:jSmokey - Happy Birthday, hope you have a wonderful day.xx:j:beer:
Wilbur - well done on getting the overdraft down.
Its Friday :j:j hasn't been the most productive week but am looking forward to a relatively peaceful weekend, unfortunately have to go to Lakeside over the weekend sometime as need to get DD an interview outfit for her interview day at school coming up.
Wet and windy here today, am so longing for no more mud and warm weather - hopefully not too long
Today will be a little of everything day, am babysitting my niece and nephew after school so will have a full house - they aren't too bad normally - fingers crossed.
Not sure what is for dinner tonight as the menu plan has been moved about this week. Possibly pork kebabs. Fancy making a sausage plait - might do that tomorrow. (Have wanted one since I saw the one on Hairy Bikers)
I appear to be waffling this morning so best get off, have a good one.x0 -
Happy Birthday smoky :bdaycake:Have a great day xxx
Morning all,
Looks like more rain here, but just looking at the news at Aberdeenshire and they have it really bad with the snow, and power cuts, poor things.
Off to work today, for another busy day, its manic there at the moment, and I am coming home shattered, can't keep my eyes open much beyond 9
Going to do a hm pizza for tea tonight, with some salad, and might do a garlic bread.
OH came home filthy from head to foot last night, he had been taken a chimney out so all the work clothes had to be washed, expect I will have another load tonight.
Tomorrow we will lay the new flooring in dd's bedroom, well OH will
I shall be painting the kitchen and providing tea coffee, and food
Ok better go and make my sandwiches, have good days all xx0 -
Smokybabe
Sounds like one or two or you are going through the wars so
Twink - I hear you had a foot of snow, so have a
. Hope you manage to keep warm, and safe.
Wilbur
Rather cloudy at the moment, though sun and cloud and 19C forecast. Taking the car in for its first service here today, as we don't have enough miles left to get back and keep in within the warranty. Rather pleased we did as their estimate for it was 150€, I called the local dealer in the UK and they said that service was £243.78:eek::eek::eek::eek:
I cannot offer any advice to those with ADHD kids, but hope they find a way to solve the issues. :grouphug:
Bitsy - I would not worry about creeping around with kids in a touring or camping. Usually running around in the open air playing wears them out. You can sit in the awning with H once they are in bed. Another thought is ready-erected tents in France, though June can be the cheapest (half term)+/- From 2.1/4 we took DS down to the south of France, he was good about sleeping when travelling, and when awake and bored, we put nursery rhymes/songs tapes on and sang along. Once he decided he couldn't cope with our singing any longer and fell asleep then we took a break from them:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.
I found some stewing steak in the Aldi out here and some kidney from a butchers, so the SC is going on in a while, should be enough for at least 2 if not 3 days, so will freeze some.
The sun is trying to get through the cloud now, and DH is putting the cereal out, so will say BBFN.
Take care - DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning alll!!!!!!!!
I'm normally on the flylady thread but thought i'd say before i got the boys out of bed.

Going to get monkeys up and about,
bye all0 -
morning
Smokey happy birthday hon  hope you have a great day x
Diva i love the idea of the plantars for the kiddies, what a fab thing to have done with your nephews :T
going to do the peanut butter bics today - thanks for the recipe
essex girl wet and windy here too  but at least its not snowing
hope everyone in Scotland is ok the snow looks horrendous
DH's birthday tomorrow so need to pop out to get him a few little bits . he has no idea what he wants so I am giving him money to put towards a camera he has been looking at, but need a couple of things so he has got something to open
cavity wall surveyor came yesterday and we are ok to have it done :j hopefully will save money on our fuel bills.
did anyone watch 'Tonight' last night ? it was about saving money on energy bills. they had a thermal imaging camera on the outside of houses showing how much heat was leeching out through the walls and windows, it was incredible , most houses were simply chucking heat out into the night air  they said you could save hundreds of pounds with proper insulation and energy saving methods ( the sort of stuff we MSErs do as a matter of course
:A) - interesting though
I was surprise how much energy boiling a kettle used  think I will have to boil the kettle once and stick the rest in a flask
have a good day all xx0 -
Morning All
Zippychick hope you have a better day today! I seem to be having a life like that at the minute - its just one thing after another!
Off work today but got MSing to do...quite a lot actually and I don't know whether to work like a dog today and have saturday and sunday off or do half today and half tomorrow - see how we go!.
Looked at the budget last night and have to admit it is very very scary but with DH on board it will be do able. For the next 3 months its going to be exceptionally tight but after that just very tight :rotfl: but DH is off to doctors today to go on the tablets to stop smoking (:T) which will make a big difference and I am going to put the screws on the grocery budget. The twins have both been told to make their own money last as I won't have any to lend them! I've also set a target to earn £15 per day on the DFW board and DH is looking for a part-time job but as he's been looking after kids for the last 8 years it ay be difficult for him to get anything.
I have that 'nervous' feeling which I'm hoping will pass as I get out and do something constructive today!
Right need to make a start
Wilbur - glad to hear that you've done so well
