Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt.

On the subject of bread, the large majority is made by either Allied Bakeries, or British Bakeries.
As the bread deliveries for supermarkets come in daily, the loaves are 'mixed' between brand names and own brands in the bread racks.
You can often see these bread racks on the shop floor of a supermarket when the shelves are being restocked.
If the bread is stored in orange crates, then it will be supplied by Allied Bakeries, who make Kingsmill (premium), Sunblest (standard), Allinson, & Burgen.
If the bread is stored in brown crates, then it'll be British Bakeries produce, who's brands include Hovis (premium), Mother's Pride (standard), and Nimble.
This also goes for other prepacked bakery products such as crumpets, muffins etc.0 -
Batteries...
Unless the supplier has changed, Asda brand alkaline batteries are made by RAY-O-VAC Vidor (which isn't a common brand in the UK, but they are extremely high quality - better than standard Duracell).0 -
Where I live we have a chicken factory processing plant Sun Valley (nothing to do with Bernard Matthews)
I worked there for a short while and worked on the M&S line
Opposite was the Mcdonalds line
All used exactly the same chickens reared locally in chicken sheds.
I no longer work there but they have recently opened the "staff" shop to the public and they now sell the bags of mcdonald chicken nuggets 2 for £5 and also Iceland packs of chicken, M&S whole chickens at much cheaper prices.
We're talking 3x packs of Iceland chicken fillets for £1, and M&S xtra large chickens for just under £2
I left there to work for Sainsburys
I remember stacking beans on the shelf with Sainsburys labels on them but they had been double wrapped with cross & blackwell labels.
hope this helps!0 -
I wondered if anyone knew who supplies John Lewis with their "own brand" washing machines? Will need to replace ours soon and want to avoid a couple of manufacturers.0

Marks and Spencer have these biscuits half covered in chocolate, with a depiction of some scene or other. £2(ish) for two packs.
Aldi have got exactly the same biscuits for 69p a pack. They're quite nice too.0 -
carrot81 wrote:Wow! Too many pages to read! I;m pretty new at this. Anyway, the majority of High Street retialers have shoes made in the same places-Schuh, Office, Faith, Dune, Topshop etc etc. The prices vary from store to store but you'l often find the shoes are similar quality. I know because I work for one of them and have had shoes in for 'us' that were branded with another retailer's stamp.
Back again-even cheaper retailers like New Look also use the same factories too-sometimes their materials will be lower quality but the construction's all the same!0 -
Ruby2006 wrote:When searching for a washing machine i found this site very helpful it gives much of the information you have given relating to who makes what washing machine. It is site created by a washing machine repairman who gives insight into what washing machines are worth your money. The which washing machine section i found particularly interesting.
This is the website, very helpful

I agree that Lidl sells some great chocolate though
