Update on Aldi Steinhauser German Lager
It used to be by Binding in Frankfurt but is now brewed in Dortmund. It says so on the bottle. There is now only one brewery left in Dortmund, the former DAB brewery in Dortmund-Eving. Here's a picture.

I happened (praised be the day!!) to come across real DAB in Makro's and compared it with Aldi's own brand Steinhauser. Result: they are definitely not identical. Trouble is that the aforementioned brewery produces about 40-50 different brands, mainly Pilsener and Export, so further guesswork is futile. Only so much is clear: it's none of their premium brews (Ritter First, DAB, Brinkhoffs No 1, Kronen, Thier.) It might well be specially brewed for Aldi, but for the foreign market only, mainly UK, USA, and Ireland. It's not available in Germany.0 -
I used to work for a company which imported corned beef from South America. If you look at the round stamp on the tin, you will often see exactly the same on the expensive and cheaper brands. If the stamp is the same, then the contents are exactly the same.
Sorry not sure if this has been posted before - this is my first post so please be gentle!!!!0 -
hmm nothing.0

I used to work for Kraft (I only knew them for their cheese slices but they seem to have their fingers in a lot of pies recently) and we made Altoids mints. What was interesting was we made the Altoids for the American market and none of them were for the British market (not under the Altoids brand name anyways!). So they claimed they didn't have enough to fill UK orders, but they were perfectly willing to make extra for the likes of M&S and Tescos which were of course for sale in the UK....very strange tactics I must say!0

C. Morrisons the best is better!! Thicker, more absorbent, etc
I work for the company that makes Andrex. We used to supply you with paper, we may still do, but I'm not involved in that part any more.
Andrex will not block your loo unless you throw vast quantities down the pan e.g. a whole roll. The average is 12 sheets per flush.0 -

I worked in an independant chocolate factory and the exact same chocolates were put in a Tesco value box and a Marks and Spencer very expensive box, but looking in the shop, M & S were nearly three times as much.
I've always gone for value anything since working there and from the look of this thread I've saved plenty of money and got the same result!
I wonder who makes the bars of Tesco Value Milk Chocolate (25p), I bought some just to try it, it's absolutely disgusting!! I'm very picky about the chocolate I like (Lindt Milk is my absolute favourite).
I agree that Lidl sells some great chocolate though0 -

Did you know that Avon only make for...Avon!!
If you observe when their high tech skincare ranges are introduced, it is generally BEFORE L'oreal etc., making them Market LEADERS. Their full price is usually cheaper, (on Average £15) If you wait for a brochure promotion you can get them for 1/2 price (£7.50) and if you become a Rep you can save upto a further 25%!! Meaning you only pay approx £5.63 for your really high tech luxury cream!!! How good is that!!
Jxx
PS. Anyone wanting more info on becoming a Rep - PM me with your email address. Cheers J
Not true actually. Avon share a laboratory with a very big make in skincare (starts with a C...) and also make products for other companies (the one I know starts with a V.....).
So although Avon products are exclusive, some people who buy make up/skin care brands starting with a C and buying from a company starting with V could actually be paying a lot more to get Avon products (hohoho!)0 -

My DH works for Candia (or rather Candia bought out the dairy factory he works for ....). He has worked in the same dairy all his working life so knows the ins and outs. I know UHT milk isn't consumed anywhere near as much in UK as it is here in France, but for the record :
1) Going back many years, the best-before date on milk cartons, was reduced from 6 months to 3 months, without altering anything in the production, so the carton that says 15/04/07 should remain ok until 15/07/07 (as even the 6 mth date had a certain amount of lee-way).
2) All "normal" milk is treated in the same vats, and so whether it is Candia, supermarket own or the cheapie version with foreign lettering on it - it is the same milk. As DH says, which is cheaper to change, the packaging, or a production system ?
The production lines for "vitamin-added" (or whatever) are, however, different.
(I can see a similar reasoning being applied to some but not all products. And the clients own specifications would need to be considered too.)
So unless DH brings freebies home (pallets of milk that have too short a shelf life for the supermarkets, but still have easily 2-3 months to go), I always buy cheapie version with foreign lettering on it :T (Although for my cup of tea I still buy fresh milk).
