JollyNolly wrote:Don't bother with dishwasher tablets at all. They're far more expensive than own-brand dishwasher powder, particularly if you buy the largest packs of powder available. Also, it's easier to vary the quantity according to the dishes you have to wash if you use powder - e.g. how many, how dirty, etc. The tablets are just a scam to make you think you're buying something special.
100% agree - the tablets are just compacted powder, meaning they take much longer to dissolve and so work less effectively. Powder, or even better liquid, dissolves much faster and so works better. Before tablets came along the powder/liquid packets always told you to adjust the amount you used depending on how big the load and how dirty is was - now the same manufacturers claim a one-size-fits-all tablet will work just as well - nonsense! I have a slimline dishwasher which takes less plates, so I always buy powder or liquid so I can use less, with tablets I'd have to use the same number of tablets as someone with a much bigger machine - a waste of money and hardly eco-friendly!
Sadly it's harder and harder to get powder and especially liquid now because so many people fell for the tablets thing!0 -
jud!th wrote:I reckon that any wheat bisks that are in the same size and shape of box as weetabix, with the notches in the lid in the same place, and the wheat bisks in the same kind of white packaging in two lots of 12 inside the box, must be made by weetabix.
anyone know better?
Yes, a post above covers this (as already mentioned by the poster)
The packaging is a red herring as it is probably purchased rather than manufactured by a food company. I would also question why anyone would package weetabix any differently
Not only have you not read the thread but this is exactly the sort of misinformation that this thread does not need.0 -

I would be interested to hear any views on 'sell by' dates on o/b milk. I buy o/b 'blue lable' milk from Sainsbury's (superstore), Somerfield and Iceland (depending on where I am when I need it). The sell by dates on the Sainsbury's milk available instore always seem much later than the others (typically Sainsbury's will have and s/b date 6-7 days after I buy it, whereas the other shops is 2-4 days later). This could be because they sell it faster, and so it is really fresher. Is there a common standard for setting these dates, or can they be rigged?

Try being a little more scientific/practical. Put less and less in until the results suffer. Then increase it a little. Now you know how much you need. A small saving, but in the long run......0 -
I was advised by an Asda optician that their own brand all in one contact lens solution was made by Baucsh & Lomb. Asda online price 2 x 360 ml of own brand £10.50 - B&L Renu comes in 240ml bottles at around £6.99 each.
Also, I buy Asda's own 45% fruit blackcurrant high juice, which is identical to ribena and costs around £1 for a litre bottle. Additionally, Asda's own gold roast coffee tastes identical to Nescafe Gold Blend, again at around a third of the price.
I worked at asda for a short while last year (when money saving was desperately needed!) and was advised during my induction that many of their own brand products are made by leading brands and put in their own packaging so it's always worth trying them. They have a money back guarantee if you don't like them so you lose nothing to try!0 -
