  • I used to work for Clinique part-time while I was at uni a couple of years ago. Clinique are owned by the Estee Lauder Group and I was amazed to find that half of the cosmetics department is also owned by them. This includes Estee Lauder (of course), Origins, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, MAC, Jo Malone, Aramis for men, Lab Series for men, Aveda and the very pricey La Mer.

In my opinion, the product range for cosmetics was (still is) much wider and cheaper at MAC than any of the other brands listed above. Certain cosmetic products are inferior if you buy very cheap brands, which ends up being a false economy as you (well, me) replace the crappy item with the original. In my experience however, mascara is best purchased from a high-street cosmetic retailer such as Maybelline. I've had countless Clinique, Chanel, Lancome mascaras and there is no increase in quality accompanying the hefty hike in price.

Scroll down to CZE 13, the cap can be seen centre right. It's definitely the right one.

    Here's the brewery:

yes I stopped using tescos brand - I kept getting itchy all over my back and I realised it stopped once i stopped using the powder. Now I use bold or another make.

Just got over this, after two weeks of itching and scratching like mad. Thought it was the shower gel, but now you mention it, I have changed by washing powder. Have been using Tesco and Ariel.

    A couple of tips:

1] Don't overdo the amount of detergent you put in the wasing machine. Read the back of the packet for amounts needed. Tesco now put a measure in with their product.

2] If you are doing a heavy (soiled) wash and using more detergent, do an extra rinse at the end. This does help - I know!

I remember from my Earth Mother days that orange juice isn't just orange juice. They're allowed to add small quantities of other ingredients including sugar. I can't remember the details but there were three books I read at the time that exposed all these tricks and loopholes. One was by Tim someone who was allied to the London Food Commission, another was called something like Not onthe Label and another was by the Guardian writer Joanna Blythym. I may have got this totally mixed up!

  • I haven't read all the posts on this forum so don't know if this has been mentioned ... I know Bourjois are a subsidiary of Chanel. So can't be that much difference in their cosmetics.
