Great 'disguised Own Brand' Hunt
I'll move your thread across to the Shop but Don't Drop board so that it can be added to that one.

Sure some stuff like cornflakes, rice crispies etc will really taste no different no matter who makes it, but with cola it is a very different matter.
Just have to mention that Tescos Diet Coke with Almond is really cheap and ace mind you.
I never ever thought of buying non-branded cola until a few months ago - I always had the idea of flat, yukky Rola Cola - and it is like that with Morrisons and Asda own coke.
Tesco's Diet Coke (not the premium the one below) tastes no different to Diet Coke (Coca-Cola) and the one with almond is fantastic. I'm a happy bunny now I'm paying 44p a 2l bottle instead of £1 a bottle (chespest on offer 24£2) :rotfl:0 -
I agree that Asda's diet coke isn't great but their citrus coke is nice. Give it a go!0

To check if branded are the same as non-branded products, have a look at the use by dates. The format of the dates, printing and codes that often accompany the dates will be identical on products produced by the same manufacturer (of course the actual use by date may vary!).
An example of this is Tesco and Aldi's long life cranberry juice 'lite' drink. There's a couple of pence difference in the price (Aldi is currently cheaper) but the format, printing and codes next to the use by dates are identical.
Long life custard is another example - but I'm afraid I can't remember the products! I think it's the 'value' and store brand (in Tesco at least) have the same format and codes..

Despite all the "Brands" available, there are only a few companies.
L'oreal being one who own several of the major brands.
I have often wondered if you get what you pay for or if there are differences between the major brands and stores own ?
What do you think or know ?
Also perfumes, does anyone know how many perfume manufacturers there are ? are they all made by the same few companies ?
Has anyone come accross perfumes just like the big brands ?or can recommend good smell-a-likes ?
I am sure that this is an area that we spend far too much money on, when we could be using cheaper but just as good alternatives ?
I know you can buy smell a likes at a company called thesoapkitchen.co.uk

My mother-in-law always used to as well (or Fray Bentos) until she watched me open up a cheapy tin from Mr T - and commented - gosh that looks nice - none of that horrible yellow grease all around it!
