Thank you for the updates folks - we have now lost just over 2 stone (well the rest of you have
) - I am on two weeks of antibiotics so no alcohol, a good time to start tracking on Calorie Count again
- hopefully this will get me back on track.

Short answer, actually yes it is. (or was it a retorical question?
)
I'm an IT contractor, have been for 14 years. I change work location on average twice a year and apply for probably 20 to 50 jobs a year. And there in lies the issue, if I have to follow a special different procedure for every single job I'm applying for I will go bankrupt before I get one and miss the one I can get because I'm spending so much time following someone elses special procedure.
Having to provide references before even having an invite for interview is my number 1 grip and I won't do it any more as I've lost references in the past due to unreasonable volume of requests for said reference - 20 to 50 times in a year rememeber!
There is no excuse for a CV with poor grammar and spelling though, and writting a good CV is a real skill.
Remove the barrier of some "special procedure", just ask for good CV's well matched to your requirement, then the busier better people will send their CV in
my oh was recently recruiting for an IT Assistant, a man called hr and asked if he could post his cv in as he dinae know how to switch on a computer never mind send his cv from one:rotfl: sorry this made me laugh for ages:oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!

The "Special Procedure" is simply send me a CV by post or email with a covering letter......!!
It should take someone 2 minutes to attach a CV to an email and send a Dear Amanita , I would like to apply....
Hardly rocket science but letter writng is a key skill I'm looking for which I can't judge from a CV alone. I am also looking for someone who pays attention to what they are asked to do and can follow simple instructions. If they can't do that then however good the CV they are no good to me.
Fair play, especially if letter writing is key to the job it is not too much to ask.
Look at it this way, your filtering out a lot of rubbish without much effort
On Friday I relented on my usual no references until there is actually an interview invitation. My previous boss went out of her way to make herself available between meetings for a 5 minute phone call reference and gave me the best possible reference I could hope for (nice Lady, I really enjoyed working with her). It's now 11:35am 3 working hours later and I've had no further response...
I honestly expect at least an interview having gone this far, my CV fits but then can I rely on the recruiter having actually read it yet?
Wouldn't surprise me if they haven't.0 -
so weighed in this morning and appears i've put 1lb on, can live with that, ended up eating a bit more crap this week than i normally would
just need to focus this week0
