DFW Grocery Challengers -

  • Well, I failed miserably in my first grocery challenge - too embarassed even to update the sig to what it should be (at least another £20 on top  )...

The only good thing is that in August I have used my Superdrug 10% off to the max (ended yesterday) and bought lots of toilet roll and toothpaste - both on special offer, plus an extra 10% off.

Plus I got a special offer in Sommerfield for 3 bottles of washing up liquid which will last an age. These are the things that usually eat into the weekly spend, so I have erradicated most for some time ahead. Need washing powder though.

    September WILL be different.

£120 and no more - or else!

Just under the £100 Total £99.32  .

Which is scarey as last month it was only £70.

Need to go back to the drawing board and start meal planning again.

  • We were very slightly over budget (a fiver I think) but that wasnt' too bad. I hadn't planned any meals for the month as I started the challenge after 1 weeks worth of shopping. I thought we did quite well considering :D

So, September has started. We did our first weekly shop last night. We were going to go to Lidl but decided to try and keep with in budget at Morrisons. I had my list with me (just had a list of things that I needed for teas though) and even with a few extras (cocoa for cake making, coffee that I ran out of yesterday, toothbrushes for the children, some fruit and some gelatine so I can make some air freshners) our total was £43. I was more than impressed (so was DH!). Our fridge and cupboards are full to bursting and I've got a full belly too :D

    Long may it last
  • well I've failed miserably on my first grocery challenge :o I've spent £40 more than I usually do & still have 2 days to go :rotfl: Have spent just under £180.
ds2 gave up his care home job which included meals & this is probably why. So I'm going to set my budget for this month at £160 & try harder :D
hope everyones doing better than me!

  • lol lynz, it sounds like you have enough to do without having to do loads of cooking to keep to a budget too, decorating is really tiring. Good luck with this months challenge but don't try & do too much at once :)
just an idea & I hope you're not offended but if you need any more cleaning stuff just give me a shout, I have loads here from pre lightbulb moment & it will take me years to get through it so you would be very welcome to anything you need & I will parcel it up for you :)

I use powder because I will not pay the silly prices for gels/liquids and tablets.

Excellent idea - I bought some washing powder last week - it does 30 washes (rather than the 20 washes the gel tablets were doing) and was the same price as 20 gel tablets. Putting warm water in the drawer before a wash is a fab idea, I'm too blonde to have ever come up with it myself :D so thanks calleyw! :T
