EagerLearner wrote:Oh, our month isn't going well... somehow I need to get back on track... Toilet roll and washing tablets (for clothes) always cost such a lot. I want to buy in bulk but in the normal supermarkets we can't and we have no car.
I always get the best loo roll deals (not loyal to any particular brand) - generally 12 for the price of 9 sort of thing. Re washing tablets I get the gel ones mainly when there is a deal on (buy 2 x boxes of 10 for £4.50 type thing) and we only use one per wash of clothes, 2 times a week or so. But still!
Any ideas?
Hi, I wouldn't use tablets as you don't get a lot for your money - even with own brand ones (in my opinion).... i've been using sainsburys or asda's own brand powder and it seems to sort out OH's nasty footie kit and socks (HOW do they get so minging!) so it must be ok. Also its only £3 for big box that lasts us a few months (2/3 washes a week)Lightbulb moment: July 2006

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join you all this month?
I've been spending about £150, mostly there's only 3 of us to feed as ds2 works in a care home & gets fed all his meals there for most of the week which is great!
I'm not sure whether to go for £140 or £130 though!0 -
go for 130:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

End of my month today - I had set a budget of £160 - came in at only £77.06! But it was an unusual month - we had a wedding party (from another budget) and lived on the leftover food for about a fortnight! And we were away for a week or so. But still pleased. Am going to trim a little more and aim for £150 all in for 2 adults and 3 (big) dogs. Starting today.Highest Debt (July 06): £55117.79 Debt now: £52895.44 Debt Free Date: June 20100

Any chance i could join in? I'm really getting into this money saving thing, but out grocery bill has been getting out of hand. At one point in the not so distant past we were upto about 520 pound a month  . Thats for me, my OH, 4 kids aged 14, 13, 4 and 2 and the cat.
Since seriously using this site 2 weeks ago my weekly shop has been 78 and 57 so it is giong down. What do you think a realistic budget would be?0
