Made mess of new vaio, can I get it back to normal?

Ive got quite a problem here
I have totally messed up my daughters new vaio laptop it just got worse and worse with everything I tried. Now after trying various things I did a system restore and on booting back up nothing is there, its windows 7 home premium
To try and cut a long story short I installed office 2003 yesterday and was just generally checking the laptop over and I noticed there was a problem in device manager a yellow triangle so I tried to fix it. I did some troubleshooting checks and it said teredo tunneling adapter will not start ipv6 error 10. I could still get on the net though but I looked up on google and it seemed it might have something to do with zone alarm free so I uninstalled that and changed it to comodo to see if it fixed it as I remembered people here saying it was good. The problem still remained though after it was installed. There were many popup windows because it was newly installed and I allowed most of them through because they were mostly related to vaio but a lot of the pop ups from comodo said it was trying to change a protected registry key. I'm not sure when it happened but I suddenly couldnt get on the net. It said connection was excellent but limited connection but it was actually none as I couldnt do anything on the net or get on ie. I did some more troubleshooting and it was also now saying the address did not have a valid ip address, I checked and it did seem to have changed. I tried to fix it but couldnt so as a last resort I did a system restore to yesterday before comodo was installed. Now after the restore the system is a mess. First it greeted me with the trash can is corrupted and do I want to empty it on this drive. Just about everything has gone, no start up , the programs are gone when I click start. I get windows saying I am not allowed to access places like the desktop.
ccleaner is still there and in tools the list of what should be on is there but it cant be used or found.
I have just looked in computer in hard disc drives and there is a list of things there I'm not sure if everything is. There is internet connection but it is very very slow and wont let me download anything as I tried to download zonealarm again and it gets to the download window and just will not download. I checked the device manager again and its now saying turedo tunneling pseudo interface and in properties it says again this device will not start error 10. Its looking like this its going to be a problem anyway but if it can get back to what is was before and still be on the net like it was before at least it was working and maybe a solution for the tunneling thing may turn up eventually as from google there are plenty of people with it
I did try to undo the restore but it does not work.
Just checked my ip address again and I must have been mistaken the number that changed was something else, the first few digits stayed the same 169 254 but some of the others changed so not sure what that is that changed and why
Sorry for long muddled up post, is there any way to get it system back to before like have it properly on the net and download things and get the programs as they were when you click the start icon, at the moment there is nothing just it says all programs with an arrow at the side but when that is clicked there are just
default programs icon
internet explorer 64bit
internet explorer
windows update
accesories
ccleaner folder
start up (empty)
opened word from computer and programs but it said could not open normal

is this a brand new machine?
as in it has no data to save on it?
if it was i would just do a clean install and start again0 -
It is new really, brought for christmas but I've never done a clean install before plus I'm concerned if the restore copy that we had to create might not work or something if we start to go ahead, there was no discs with the laptop so had to make them.
From what I can see now stuff is still on the laptop just not as it was from the start button. The main prob is cannot download anything and although can get on the net its massively slow. I am hoping to be able to avoid the clean instal not even sure if the dvd is working properly either to use the discsThanx

yeah the disc thing is standard on Vaios
right so are you on wifi or cable for the net?0 -
By the sound of things then a restore to as shipped (out of the box) is required press F10 when booting up remember that everything you have installed / altered will be lost .
I have a vaio so i speak from experience0 -

What will that exactly do take it straight back to the same as it was when it was first switched on? Are you windows 7 too? Why don't they tell you to do that if its really needed? I havent seen anything about f10 just info on making a restore disc
It does say something about restoring some programs or data etc but its what to know is needed to get it back to normalThanx

press f10 repeatadly after switching on,this will let you restore the laptop to factory settings(i.e.as it came out of the box)as stated above anything you have added will be lost, but at least you can start again.0

I read up on google after malamute posted and some people have found that it wont work properly and once they have pressed the f10 it just keeps restarting and wont restore it so its worse than before. Have they fixed this problem now? I'm really nervous about doing that. Its strange that sony don't suggest it also I'm glad I'm now aware of it because to me it could be quite dissasterous if its hit by accident as apparently there is no stopping it once pressed.
Its allowing me to update the spyware blockers and avast is updating itself so it is odd I cant download zonealarm, I also tried adobe just ion case it was a prob with zonealarm download and that wont load eitherThanx

Software firewall has stuffed up your laptop, and you are trying to put one back on, use the windows one.
Where are the links that say recovery partition doesn't work?
Try a system restore further back!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Only the windows firewall is running now, things are still the same but I understand by doing that it cant put right what has gone wrong before. What a mess
I will have to look for the links again I'm confused with this recovery thing with vaio. I've never done one before anyway on any pc but it says on the cvaio recovery center a few different choices,
restore c drive, this program deletes all files on the c drive including personal data but does not affect any other partition
restore complete system, bit confused with the partition thing here, it says this program will delete all c drive and any other partitions. the new c drive will use all available disc space unless you create a second partition. recomended when pc wont start properly. confused because does this mean once you have used this you dont have a hidden restore partition afterwards as its used unless you create a partition yourself?
vaio data restore tool, enables you to restore backup copies made with rescue data software
instal programs or drivers, use if factory installed programs are not performing as expected
would any of these reduce the available hardrive space to less than it was from factory?Thanx
