Although I didn't see the program - from write ups I thought the point was more about English people and their approach to work that is considered beneath them. Perhaps also about employers shafting their employees. These are probably very valid and interesting topics. Not really anything to do with the 'immigration' thing imo.
i'm sure if the same program was done in another country it would be exactly the same and probably have portrayed the immigrant population as working harder.

don't forget if you come to a country to work you are always going to want to work harder as that is your intention (to earn a better living than where you came from) so it's a bit unfair to compare to someone who goes to work just to work then go home and his feed his family.

also the program was an hour - not a lot of time to be fair to both sides of the debate.

no but you could tell the subtle differences between the UK and France

did you not know there are countries and cultures outside the UK?

I can spot the subtle differences within the UK, let alone those in France ("Every thing stops for lunch" especially on a Sunday when we take out Nana and the kids for a civilised meal - not a fight in KFC.).

To some Chinese, we Europeans are not so much foreign devils as "big noses smelling of cheese":rotfl:
and to us they are "inscrutable".

Neither of these two generalisations are of course true. Some of us have quite small noses:T
To a lot of East Asians keeping up "face" is important - they just don't get the American let it all hang out, instant alcohol fuelled, bonhomie with strangers approach - Nor do the French come to that.

BTW KFC is probably the most successful USA implant into China - it is just so "western"

It rather reminds me of the planning committee who demanded a translation of the proposed frontage of a Chinese Restaurant before they would grant planning permission (even though there is probably something subtle that can be done with dragons & pearls & lotus flowers if you want to have a subtle laff at the expense of the natives)

    i disagree

you could travel 100 miles in Europe and you will find a completely different culture.
you could travel 1000 miles in South East Asia and it feels like you haven't moved

it may be obvious but it surprised me

have you actually travelled to south east asia before making such a sweeping statement?

if you've only been on your gap year to the must-see spots then I can see why but 1000 miles in south east asia covers a lot of cultures.

Don't turn the whole continent into one country because they clearly aren't.

ok - i'm wrong, Wikipedia is wrong and the geography books are wrong

lol, India is in South East Asia - you're obviously stupid as well as ignorant.

I know you grew up as a white African but don't be bitter against people of a different skin colour because your land was taken away by the people you took it from initially.

actually, reading further one and getting this gem just made my day.

India is South Asia, it's a sub-continent on it's own, it's about South East Asia as Israel is Europe ;)

i was trying to make an analogy about the size of Asia and a lot of its shared culture comparing it to Europe and vast differences in culture with travelling much less distance.

it obviously didn't come across well as Wookster continued for pages and pages claiming India was South East Asia and claiming that everyone in Asia looks the same

i know that, you know that, everyone knows that but wookster says it's not.

I agree! Talking about some mythical figure and life after death, plus the idea of Hell for those who disbelieve - but I guess we need to allow room for the Jehovahs, Catholics, Anglicans, etc.

Yes, you bring the stake and the fire wood and I will bring the matches:D

Who was that American bone head who said he was going on a "crusade"?

I always try to be polite when those nice young men ring my door bell. But there seems to be something about humans that makes them form gangs and then attack rival gangs; having god on their side just makes the violence twice as bad. Hell fire preacher rabble rousing speach anyone.

Let us keep that sort of thing for something really important like Football
