You can legally continue to travel on that passport even after you are married, as you retain the legal rights to your original name. However you would have to book in your unmarried name too which isn't ideal.

How annoying Sexymouse! It's good that you can still use it, just equally annoying that you'll have to always book holidays in your maiden name!

Speaking of name changes, we can't quite decide what to do about mine. If I take his it'll annoy me for the rest of my life because it's a little too close to 'Robin Hood' for my liking, if I double barrell it might sound a bit pretentious... or since it's so cheap and easy to change your name by deed poll do we both choose a random surname we love (which we have... found it on a gravestone!!!!) and both change it to that because it's funny?!

I know I'll probably just end up with option one since it's the 'proper' to do but it's making me sad!

I had to check his surname as I thought I must have it wrong - I wouldn't worry its really not that similar, I would never associate you with Robin Hood at any rate!

OK, so some positives to balance the negative post from earlier, as I did have a new year's resolution to be more positive. I went to Debenhams after work today, and didn't realise it was the sale - I got my wedding earrings (hadn't seen them on their website, so they must be an old line) for £5! Unfortunately I can't find a pic of them, but they compliment my dress really well, so I'm really chuffed. They are John Richard pearl and diamante earrings. They have a tiny pearl where the stud goes through, a dangly diamante bit then pearl flowers with a diamante in the middle of them. For those of you who've seen my dress, you know that'll compliment the flower part really well. The corsage I got for the bridesmaid dress is the wrong colour pink, but that gives me an excuse to go back and look for holiday clothes in the sale now. ;) Will look on their website and see if I can get the ivory version delivered to store, as it was so pretty, it was such a shame it didn't match.

Also, OH and I sort of had a falling out with his brother and girlfriend, so have decided not to invite them! I've always hated his brother and the girlfriend is a real cow (asks questions about the wedding and then criticises everything and always has to go one better than me some how). SO, I'm now :j:T:D

Remind me of your dress SM??? The earrings sound pretty too!

I kind of wish we could not invite OH's brother, he's fine (although typical middle child always attention seeking, even at 30 years old! Not sure how 'fine' I'll think he is after spending a week with him!) but none of us, i.e. me, OH, MIL2B, FIL2B, other BIL2b like his GF! She's a right b!tch and she's so mean to him! I don't want her in the majority of my wedding pictures because I honestly believe that they won't last and I don't want to look back and see a total cow-bag stranger uglying up my photos! After OH had spent ages sorting out their holiday last week and managed to get TC to book a Thomson holiday for less than the Thomson reps could do it, I think they cut out all of their commission, BIL2B rang up his GF and told her and she didn't even say thank you, she said, 'You should have told me, I can get discount!' Grrrrrr! I doubt she could have gotten it for any cheaper than OH got it at and she didn't have to spend 4 hours arguing with the travel agents!!!! Bah, I hope he dumps her soon and someone else can take her place!

I know logically speaking my name won't be too 'Robin Hood'-y but I'll feel it, and my friends all tease me about it as it is! I've already had 25 years of being asked where Batman is, I don't want to add fuel to the fire! Could be worse I suppose, I could be marrying a 'Banks'!

I don't know what to do about the name thing either. I am happy to stick with my own name, but then what do you do if you have kids? Don't think double barreling is an option as our names don't really go together. I would be a Houston-Mumford (!)

I also really object to having to change my name! Why does the name pass down the male side? That sucks. In France lots of people double barrel their maternal surname. It's definitely not easy....

It's not easy is it? I like my surname, it's nicer than OH's IMO (obviously!). OH's surname is also fairly common around here and people link him to people with the same name even though they're not related, and he really doesn't want to be related to these people! He likes my name and would take it but it's not very 'manly' to do so and I don't think such a show of obedience to the wifey would go down well at the Boy's Club! I wouldn't just keep my surname as I want the same name as my children.

As a compromise we'd both change it to something completely different but I don't really believe that OH will do it! I'm up for it though, if I can't keep my name why should he keep his?!

its not pretentious to double barrel if they go together, youve got a good reason to do it
if you want to sound posh and above your station then thats pretentious lol
    do your surnames go together?
my friend double barreled hers first and his last
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p

You'd kind of need to go his surname-your surname though and you'd still have the issue if you think it sounds a bit Robin Hood-ish. I think you're worrying over nothing though! Besides, blokes will always find some way to mock one anothers names no matter what you were called!
