Ha ha, you have to look at that photo for ten years as well lol!
My friend at work did hers last year and used the check and send service with the post office, they advised that having your ears covered didn't matter.

At least you have plenty of time for them to reject it, I think if you are just renewing now it's really quick as they have those specialist teams that deal with only new applications now that you have to have an interview etc
