Making cards - Ideas for beginners (part 4)

My DS has Aspergers too and he's almost 18. He received DLA up until he moved down here to Yorkshire from Scotland. I found in Scotland he received lots of help and support especially at his school, but as soon as he moved to the high school here in Yorkshire, it was all taken away. He has no support now from anywhere. He started college last September and it's totally different from High school, he's finding it a lot harder, plus he doesn't have any friends there as they've already formed their little circles of friends and my ds's socialisation skills are mainly affected so he finds it difficult to communicate with strangers for the first time - once he knows someone it's different.
I really feel for you, so hopefully you'll get the help you need and soon.
Have you joined any of the online Asperger's forums?
Thinking of you,
Sal

Hi Sal
Thanks for your support. Scotland seems to be quite good for their support for Autism and Aspergers. Sorry to hear your ds lost his support but a huge well done to him for battling on alone - I hope he manages to form some friends soon.
My ds went all through school with no support which infuriates me. He had no behavioural issues and because of his innate intelligence manged to claw his way through high-school. He amazes me because he got 10 GCSEs (bs &cs) but was at school maybe 25% of his two GCSE years. Just think what he couls have achieved with full-time attendance and appropriate support.
He was / is completely isolated though and has had no friends for at least the last five years. It was the cost to his mental health which finally caused us to withdraw his from sixth form - best decision we ever made.
I am a member of an online ASD forum but I find it hard going at times - full of stories of lack of support from local authorities and parents with full on battles on their hands trying to access support / funding for their children.
Anyway, thanks again and best wishes to you and your ds, Thriftyxxx0 -
thanks for the tip about the CCW challenge choccy, I have just made one for a last minute order (my brother, typical!) so will enter it
twinkle your cards are fabulous :T0 -
Rainmac - Can I come for tea please? Pizza Express are my favourites.
Sal & Thrifty - Hope you both get DLA for your sons. My nephew who has different mental health issues has benefited from what they call an 'early intervention' team aimed at young men - might be worth seeing if such a thing exists in your area. I know it's easy for me to say but please keep trying and if there's anything I can usefully do please shout up. Are your sons similar ages? Could they be pen email pals - not sure if it would help or not if it's interpersonal skills they need - sorry if I've got it all wrong.
Twinkle - love your cards - especially the bingo one0 -
Rainmac we have just had Pizza and salad for tea mmmm yummy. I hope you enjoy yours too.
I have been a good wifey today and very MSE I've done all the washing and got it dry outside (first time this year) cleaned windows, cleaned the bathrooms and I made lurkio soup for lunch. Phew.... crafting then tonightJust need to do my swap card and then everything is ready to take to the NEC. I will try and do one for the CCW challenge Choccy.
OK here goes... here are my first 2 cards
this one is for my mother in law who is bingo mad! I printed the background onto the card, made the MUM letters in photoshop and the printed out the other bits cut them out and raised the with foam pads.
this one is for my mum who loves anything with bears on. I printed the pictures on card and cut out and again raised certain bits with the pads. I am quite pleased for my first efforts anyway. Hope they like them!
Brilliant cards Twinkle :T I'm sure they will be appreciated. They are so much better than my first ones!0 -

its totally gorgeous padster!! :T0 -
Choccie - I actually dread to think what she did with them. It wouldn't have been so bad had it only been the one, but it wasn't! Needless to say if my PM's go out on a short loan again, it will be with strict instructions not to use alcohol based ink:D Thanks for the tip re Creative Card World, might just manage to get a card done.
Twinklelittlestar - Fab cards. I'm sure the recipients will be thrilled.
Rainmac - thanks for the freebie link
Paddington - that card is gorgeous
I'm off to make another Mother's Day card and finish gift wrapping the pressies for tomorrow.0 -
Twinkle - fab cards; I really like the bingo one.
Padster - lovely wedding card, and definitely one that you'd never throw away.
Melissa - great LO, perfect colours for the theme.
I can't remember who did the card for the promarker challenge, with the girl with stickle flowers in her hair? It was lovely anyway!
I'm sorry, my head is mush tonight! I've had lots of painkillers today for my back, and I'm spoting a lovely black eye from where one of my dogs headbutted me!
I'm also babysitting my 8 month old neice for the first time tonight!! Luckily her mum will be coming back to stay the night here - it's been a long time since there's been a baby in my house!some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -

Thanks Padster - send a few of those magic wands my way :rotfl:
Ds had a social worker who was great. She discharged him into the care of this Autism / Asperger's specialist unit (the one who has insufficient funds to support him). I'm going to get back in contact with her on Monday.0
