I fancy finding a little hand sewing project to do to while away some time, any ideas?

What about a fabric bag? Either patchwork, or embroidered? You can by cane -look handles I think at hobbycraft :D

How about making some small coin purses or makeup bags? You can cut the patterns out at home and take them all in with you together with a bag of embellishments, ribbons, buttons etc and see what you come up with. If they are reasonably small you could manage them all by hand. I can send you a pattern for these if you are interested just PM me your email address:

DB, I am having problems commenting on your blog, but I love your sunglasses, I almost bought that pair but decided on a purple pair in the end. Well I actually bought 3 pairs!

Quick bakey question - when you see cupcakes with that swirly piped icing? What sort of icing is that, how would I make it. Is it even icing or soft cheese or butter type frosting?

Butter frosting. Its very easy, butter, icing sugar and flavouring/colouring. I do mine to taste, so no quantities I'm afraid...I used a hand held electric whisk to combine and get fluffy. :)

I can actually dig out quantities if you need them but it is pretty foolproof. FWIW when they are for home or for things liek the village fete, I slather, not pipe. I prefer themore homey look. I make it up in three or so bowls, colour/flavour each differently and slather with a palate knife or knife. Hindreds and thousands are also popular...sadly, my ''little boy'' is my 31 year old DH, not a Dylan...bu he still gets excited about hundred and thousands ;)

On the subject of cupcakes ~ I saw some at a craft fair recently and they were fabulous creations about 5 inches high and the butter icing was covered in edible glitter!
They were about £4 quid each though!!

We sell them at the fete here for insane amounts, but the cost of producing stuff for those village events is astounding.

I can only imagine, I was dying to buy one to take home, but that would have meant buying one for the DH and kids and that would have set me back £24!!! ~ guess I just don't love them all that much ~ just kidding :)

    LOL, make them at home!

FWIW I don't by anything from our fete bake stand...its cost me too much to stock it! and if it hadn't...well...I think the prices put on stuff by the village committee are outrageous, and I wouldn't buy anyway :rotfl::rotfl:
