before they start reception anything that gets the children to begin identifying the sounds that the letter makes is fine, schools use the (44 I think, it late I apologise) phonemes ( sounds letters make) rather than the 26 letter names to teach children, what is important to note is that children are not expected to be able to write the grapheme (written sound) until the end of reception but many schools will try to push this earlier.

I'm still wearing my dressing gown but have added my snuggly slipper boots'we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing'0 -
Ugh so tired, and my cold seems to be coming back with a vengeance, but guides coffee evening went well, and I have dates sorted to do my camp licence now also :-/ think that's a good thing, something else for me to work towards at least.0

hello I'm back  sorry for disappearing after all your lovely advice on Fri/Sat.. haven't even got time to catch up on all the posts by everyone since Sat... haven't had a moment to myself since, just thought I'll pop in a quick update on what eventually went on me for my formal dinner on Sat.
managed to get opaque grey tights on Sat morning from my local DP to go with the grey shoe boots and it looked fab, not the exact same shade of grey, one being warm and the other a bit cooler but they were fine since only a couple of inches of my legs could be seen anywaythanks for the brilliant suggestion of coloured tights! much much better than black and black shoes. poor DH had to go and return those black shoe boots today
did give him credits for trying though, but the quality just wasn't the same as the DP grey ones...
also found a set of black/white/silver/gold bangles in DP that went really well with the dress for the Bollywood theme, and I stuck a couple of stick on red gems (those crafty ones) on my forehead just for an extra effect :rotfl: those were the only colour on me that night as I kept everything else to a monochromatic theme (black/white/grey) well, except the gold bangles too
same morning (sat) picked up a couple of gems in the local charity shops! well chuffedhad a Monsoon brown/red printed cotton skirt, a lilac/purple summery skirt with some beads/sparkly bits on it, a Debenhams Collections tunic top that I normally wouldn't have the courage to try on, but thanks to being inspired by the girls here, I went for it and it looks lovely! not as loud as I thought it would look, a bit understated... its a retro sort of print, red on cream...sorry Im crap at describing them
will try and take some pics when I get a chance
I knew there's a reason why I'm an artist not a writer
had a spare half hour today and popped into the charity shops in the city... found a brown Zara high neck jumper and a F+F (is that tesco? or sainsburys?) black high neck t shirt.. both to go under my suit (always struggle with bursting buttons on shirts!) so quite happy with them too :j
now let me attempt this 'what did I wear today' thingy for the first time, pls bear with me
grey long sleeve tunic from H&M
skinny dark blue jeans from Primark
my fav trusty brown mukluk
long chain with vintage style cat print pendant from camden market
black cashmere high neck long A-line fitted coat from Debenhams collection
teal/spots/owl bag from Disater design ( http://www.cube4bags.co.uk/index.php/products/details/195/20/disaster/disaster-it's-darling-owl-hand-bag )
did I do it right?
good night girls, though I suspect most normal pple would have long gone to bed by now
another chance tomorrow to check out more charity shops in the city as I have a few hours spare in the afternoon :j hope I find something else interesting0 -

Morning all
Daisy, I'd forgotten I'd bought my vanilla tea - I shall have some later this morning
I seem to be having a very busy week, lots to do and the sunshine is making me feel like doing it for a change.
Two eldest have an 'inset' (teacher training) day, DD1 has gone off to her b/f and DD2 is still in bed and will probably remain there for most of the morning.
I'll take DS to school and then it'll probably be a fun-filled day of more housework/washing/ironing and tidying up. I've got a bit of Guide prep to do for Friday's session (we're doing our Chocolate Badge :j) and then a bit more prep as I'm going to be opening my own unit in a few weeks  :T. I'm really happy about that as I've had 'issues' (not my fault I hasten to add !) and it will be lovely to run my own group.
Anyway, today's outfit (pic will be on blog a bit later):
Red tulip skirt (Ebay, couple of quid)
Black V-neck jumper
Black opaque tights
Red and black bracelet (a gift from my mum)
Red rose-design necklace (another pressie from mum)
Black bow shoes (peacocks)
I've been brave and worn the skirt mainly due to it being inset day and not having to encounter all the kids on the way to school - I was worried they'd laugh at how bright it is. I need to get used to wearing colours again, slowly getting there.

jtb- wow, exciting about opening your own unit
and hurrah for skirt wearing. you'll soon get used to wearing colour, trust me you feel far more noticeable in it than you actually are; how much attention do you pay to people wearing colours when your out and about? chances are not as much as you suspect people will be paying to you...does that make sense?
