Jasmines teachers said I can start phonetic books with her as she thinks she will pick up reading really easily but I dont want to push her too much you know? I hate it when kids are hot housed, they need to be little kids for a bit
Luckily I'm an early years advisor for the local authority and work across the schools, nurseries and childminders with children up to the end of reception. I am very much into the creative curriculum and lead on outdoor play, forest school etc. Always struggle when it comes to my own children though. Which phonics books are you going with,
oh and to keep on topic I am sporting a rather lovely fuffly pink dressing gown and winnie the pooh nightshirt, you can't beat winnie the pooh :rotfl:'we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing'0 -
I have no idea choccy erm do biff, chip and kipper books count? I will probably ask the MIL as she teaches reception to see how best to start, though Im sure she will try a take over (rolls eyes)**"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."**0

Retro, just go with the flow, and yep biff ,chip and kipper (Oxford reading tree) can be linked into phonics easily. Can give you further tips around letters and sounds and phonic work if you would like via pm or facebook
all fun and creative :-)

Hello,
Retro - glad it went well, how old is Jasmine? I know TV is the root of all evil (along with sugar) but we do watch it sometimes! There's aCbeebies programme called alphablocks which is based on phonics and Dylan loves watching it and it's teaching us the rules again so we can help him along. I'm thinking about phonics books too so let me know how they go down.
Oh Choccy, might be tapping into your expertise - I have some concerns about Dylan going to school following issues I had.0 -
Vicki shes 4 in 2 weeks.
Choccy that would be great thanks any advice you have would be most appreciated...Im sure we are doing most of the stuff already anyway, her teacher said tonight that she could tell she gets a lot of exposure to books and gets read to a lot as she has a great imagination and a wide vocabulary...she cant help getting into books in this house its what we all are into! And we have many Oxford reading tree books from when the boys were younger, so I have been reading them with her and pointing to the words as I say them etc...its daft I have done all this already with the other 2 but you forget really easily lol
ETA they do jolly phonics at her school if thats any help?**"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."**0 -
