You're right. I guess that's not my bailiwick. I will say, however, that removing Argentine production from that commodity could not have helped keep the price down.

Ag policies here were only meant to be applied to fresh meat exports ...but the meltdown has been such that slaughterhouses have reduced their total output thus affecting all parts and uses of the animal.

You have great prices in the UK! I can buy tinned corned beef as cheaply as you guys!

    Cheers,
    Mike

I find it very amusing how most posters dont appear to notice the serious posts , and you get all the ''I got a tin for pence'' posts in between

I have tried googling this in the past and found a lot of interesting information about Fray Bentos and the meat trade but not what I was looking for. How is corned beef made / what exactly is it made from?

Try googling "make corned beef" and you'll get over a million sites telling you how it is made/how to make your own.

    Thanks for that.
Do commercial companies just make it from brisket or do they put all of the unwanted parts in it?

I can't say for sure, but if they put other bits in, would anyone notice?

I always think that, if they can get away with it, they will do it.

There is no reason for butter to go up! They can't blame "raw materials" can they !

    Err, why not?

Milk prices do fluctuate, this knocks onto butter, cheese, yoghurt etc.
