Discussion thread on Supermarket prices - are they becoming too high?

The majority of corned beef in the UK is shipped in plain tins and sold auction style to different companies who then label it.
I have bought top brand and budget brand tins with the same producer and batch codes on them. Canning plants will have batches that vary in quality but buying top brands is no guarantee of top quality.

I managed to pick up a few tins in Poundland but should I get some more in case everyone is putting their price up.
It looks like a lot of things are going up and not just the odd penny or so but 30p, 40p etc.
I think it is something we are going to have to get used to.
Just make sure that you stock up on 'essential' things that are half price or on bogof at the minute.0 -

my folks really rate the Sainsbury's basics range of corned beef. They said it is the best they have found and not fatty at all. Not sure of the price but it won't be expensive as they are shrewd shoppers!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I've been to "cheap" lidl today and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how quickly their prices went up. The last week I bought their 200 g. smoked salmon for £2.59. Today it's £2.79!! It's 20 pence more. My favourite Lidl sardines was £0.35... Today it's £0.59..... Guys, are you still continue shopping at Lidl????0

Not everyone buys salmon and sardines you know so people still shop there for other stuff, food prices goes up and down,0

aye that be true. We had the latest set of price tickets through Saturday (and thus what items will cost as of today) and quite a few things went up 20-25p, however lard for example went from 40p to 35p, a special offer for another dairy product which was 2 for 2,50 is now 2 for £2.
But things go up and down all the time.0 -
If you have the time/opportunity to shop around I think you need to be selective in what you buy from Lidl's just like in any other store.0

Shopped in our local Lidl today & they have had a mass change around.
Nothing where it was, in fact I think they are trying to look more like Aldi. For example it was bread in the isles as you entered the store instead of fizzy drinks etc., anyone else found the same ??Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0
