So I'm thinking I need to learn some old style moneysaving and wonder if someone on this board can help?
I have more plums than i can eat. What can I do with them - and - heres the catchI dont eat sugar...at all...in any form ...or honey or anything like that.
So I have all these yummy plums and need some ideas to prep there for storing/freezing and am totally clueless. I looked on line but all I could find was stuff about jams and so on which is of course no help whatsoever for me:rotfl:
Any ideas please ????Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

hi...freeze them ? maybe make a puree out of them and freeze in smallish quantities depending on what you want to do with them such as a smootie or crumble if you can make them without sugar or just puree to eat with yogurt
you could steep them in gin if that is your sort of thingonwards and upwards0 -
You can freeze them, preferably blanch first in boiling water.
You can pickle them although sour pickles are not as nice as ones with some sugar.
You can dehydrate them.
You can bottle them in water (as done during ww2 when sugar was scarce). If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Gins's a sugar...too much of that is what got me into avoiding all sugars :rotfl: Alcohol free for 10 + years now. Still hard sometimes.
Freezing sounds a plan I think. :T
Now how do I make a puree???? Sorry am a bit clueless. Will try and interview google too.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Remove stones and chop approx 6-8 plums.
Peel and slice an onion, fry off in a pan with a little oil until lightly caramelised, add the plum slices and a star anise and 1 tsp chinese 5 spice. Add in a few tbs soy sauce and approx 200ml chicken stock or chicken gravy and a glug of red wine if you have it. Bring to boil and then reduce heat and allow to simmer until the stock thickens. Very tasty served with roast duck or roast chicken.Mum of 2 monkey. 4 yrs and 2 yrs :j

Aren't plums a form of sugar? I thought all fruits were0

You don't need to blanch them before freezing but do remove the stones as they can affect the flavour and some plums do have maggots around the stone.0

hi
how i would make a puree
wash plums and remove stones and cut on a chopping board each plum half into quarters or strips then simmer with a dash of water until soft...take care they dont catch and be ready to add a spot more water but not gallons...cool for a bit them either blitz in a food processor or rub through a sieve
put in bags or tubs containing the amount you can use then freeze
hthonwards and upwards0 -
plums contain fructose, so yeas, a form of sugar.
If you don't eat sugar, why don't you boil up some cooking apples or other sour apples, strain off the juice to use as pectin, cook the plums, add th peectin, then add truvia or something like to make your own jam. It probably won't keep forever, but if you jar it when boiling, and add the lids when hot, it'll form a vacuum seal and keep for a long time.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
