Your not far off there :D I dont know if they still have it, but they used to have people auctioning off thier holidays, the majority for the same reason as Gixerkid, split up etc, also I have seen in the past where one of the couples have sold part of the holiday to another single.

See if they are still auctioning holidays, just tell the real reason why you cant go, and you either want to sell it, or get someone else to go with you and they pay thier half.

I used to get cheapo thomson holidays from ebay, picked up real good bargains for about £150 PP,for a week abroad, flights, half board transfers included, dont think they do them anymore.

Either that or just dont pay the other £160 of the deposit!! but they can keep the £100. Tell them right away you cant afford it end of. Blood + stone etc etc.

sidenote-Only those who can least afford it worry about things like this. Most rich people would just tell TC to get stuffed + be thankful for £100 for nothing

    cancel the card

You REALLY should not be suggesting people break the law on here!

The OP entered into a contract to pay - canceling the card does not make the debt go away and the OP could find themselves facing action or listed as a bad debt on Equifax/Experian etc.

  • I've decided to keep the hols so i can sell it on at a later date anyway, however...i'm not sure how by giving my card details for a one off payment would entitle a travel agent to automatically use this card again for subsequent payments when i have not given them any such authorisation. from reading my paperwork it comes across as though i am responsible for making the next payment by the due date and not for it to be taken automatically...as for cancelling my card, there's nothing illegal about this. For all anyone knows i could have lost my card and ordered a new one. I've had to order new cards loads of times due to the strip becoming damaged or any other reason. Again i have not actually physically 'signed' anything yet. It has all been done over the phone.

Yes you are responsible for paying by the due date and they wont take the money automatically, but if you default in paying they will chase you for the rest of the payment. Of course its not illegal to cancel the card for the reasons you've given but morally it wouldn't be right to cancel it just so the travel agent couldnt get the rest of the deposit, after all she was doing you a favour by letting you pay a small deposit if you had paid the full deposit we wouldnt be having this debate because you'd have lost all the deposit anyway if you cancelled. Im not 100% sure but i think its irrelevant you havent actually signed the booking forms because you agreed to booking the hol in the first place and paid some of the deposit.
Wise decision to keep the hol for now who knows what the future holds.
