  • Fully agree - Kwik Fit can't be trusted and should be avoided like the plague!.
Ask friends for trusted garages or go to the council depots for your MOT's.
Oh, don't let's ask for the moon. We've already got the stars.

It also pays to do the basic checks yourself. I got my car's Haynes manual out at the weekend and checked everything that was recommended. I saved myself a re-test as it would have failed on the lighting (one of the bulbs had gone).

No one needs a workshop manual to figure that one out, go to the bottom of the class, shakes head in total total disbelief:naughty::wall::wall::wall::wall:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Indeed you don't but you need to allow extra time before the MOT to
purchase bulbs and install them before taking the time, that was the challenge.

There were also a lot of items that I normally wouldn't have checked (like fluids and suspension) and would have taken the car straight for MOT.
  • Recently had a full service on the car, changed everything that could be changed (including the brake pads and discs), so when I booked my car in for a MOT at Kwik Fit I pretty much knew there was nothing they could find to attempt to extract more cash out of me.
I'd taken the car into Kwik Fit last year for it's MOT and they failed it on "headlamp adjustment aim too low" and extracted £11.95 out of me for the privilege of fixing it. Guess what it failed on this time, bearing in mind I've only done 3000 miles in it) - yup, headlamp adjustment aim too low. I honestly thought they were taking the p1$$ It was the same guy who'd MOT'd it last year also. The plus point, I suppose, is that the MOT and charge for adjustment was still lower than the statutory VOSA fee.
Will definitely be taking it elsewhere next year, if I still own it.
