    Hi,

Thought I'd share with you all news of Kwik Fit's special online price of £35 for MOTs. I booked mine yesterday, and I admit I did experience a few problems with the website, but I persevered and managed to book. I took my car to my local branch today, and it was done without any hassle. I was very impressed with the price, considering that other MOT stations in my town are charging £54.

    Hope this helps.

Took mine yesterday. Bunch of idiots. Waste of £35. Gonna take it somewhere proper today.

Tried to sell me a new exhaust ebcause some of the mounts were corroded.

took mine a few years back for the free brake check, their quote to fix the "problems" they found was nearly £500. Took it to a local small garage and gave him the list of things that needed fixing and is original quote was £250. picked up the car and he asked for £70, asked him how it was so cheap and he said you took it to kwik fit didnt you. Most of the jobs didnt need doing :( never been back.

And is why most advice is given against this outfit. WNBRich may have had a pleasant experience, but judging by opinion he/she was in the minority:think::think:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I have just booked in at my local Kwik Fit for my car's first MOT - on Monday 8th March and would hope that being 3 years old and having been serviced twice by Toyota will pass. Will post feedback next week.
Have read other posts that Kwik Fit have a tendency to claim that brake discs are worn and need replacing. Is this likely on a 3 year old car with mileage of 20,000. Being a woman I fear they take advantage of our motor ignorance so any pre-warnings would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Pre-warning. Don't go to Kwikfit :j

Your average 3 year old 20k mile car should not need discs replacing unless there are noticeable issues when braking (vibrations, steering wheel movement), but if it has discs on the rear these can sometimes need replacing as less braking effort is put at the rear and they can rust up.

I always think finding an independent and building a good relationship with them is by far the best option.
They live and die by word of mouth, dont have a head office to answer to and arent as automated as your fast fit places.
Where I go had an itemised quote on the wall from Kwik Fit for work to be done.
They itemised their costs for the same work and you were looking at 75% less.

Kwik fit are pants. The other posters above aren't lying. Honestly.

Nationwide Autocenter isn't much better in my experience. I'd left taking my car in for its MoT to the last minute. Predictably, it failed, and the garage didn't have time to fix it straight away, however they did quote me £80 if I could wait a day or two.

I took the failure sheet to Nationwide Autocenter. I was estimated over £350 minimum by the guy at the desk who warned me that the final bill could be more if extra surrounding parts were needed. Ha!
I got it done for under £100 in the end at another local independent which included another full MoT. The Nationwide Autocenter price didn't even include another MoT.

Actually this is very probable with the make up of modern discs and pads. Unless you brake hard a few times to clear off rust from discs (especially rear ones). The lower the mileage the greater the probability that they might need replaced. Having said that I would be avoiding Kwik Fit.

Well it will fail on 4 tyres.
    Exhaust front section.
    Rear section.
    Cat.
    Discs and pads all round.
    Both rear shockers.
    Cracked road spring.
And a bulb - but they will replace the bulb free of charge...

Just been to my local Saab garage (they fit my blackcircles tyres) and they had a car in with 20000 on the clock that had the brake pads renewed by Kwikfit after the driver went in for a free check. All the technicians were looking at it as it had pads from 3 different manufacturers fitted and the rears weren't fitted properly!
