Parking Eye - Nasty tricks

  • I had a friend who had a similar fine from an Asda car park and went to Citizens Advice who said she had to pay it.

The advice given by CAB on private parking 'fines' is appalling and is based on incorrect information supplied by the British Parking Association which only exists to further the interests of Private Parking Contractors.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!

It amounts to the same thing, they want to be paid whether you call it a fine or invoice. It doesn't actually use either word on the letter I received, it is called a "charge".

There is a world of difference between a fine an an invoice. A company or a person cannot fine you but can issue you with an invoice. A fine must be paid or appealled, an invoice from a private parking contractor for breaking their Mickey Mouse rules can be ignored.

  • I've been following the above since i recieved my "parking charge notice to owner" following my date of contravention on 04/08/11
To date I have rec'd the following:
10/08/2011 1st parking charge notice for £90 reducing to £60 if paid by 23/08/2011 [ignored
18/08/2011 2nd notice with photos reminding me to pay the £60 payment by 23/08/2011 or it will increase £120 if not paid within 20 days
28/08/2011 Final notice saying £90 now due & it will be £120 from 08/09/2011
19/09/2011 Letter form Roxburghe debt collectors saying total now due £168.00
30/09/2011 [rec'd today] from Graham White Solicitors - Notice of Intended Litigation - advising me to pay the £168 or they will instigate proceedings in the County Court at which point I will incurr a further cost of £207.25.
To date I have not responded in any shape of form to any of their letters. Here's hoping all the advice above is correct, if not I'll be passing the hat round :-)

They know that they haven't a leg to stand on, so just ignore then ignore some more

Nope, landowner damages are zero, and if if you do pay Parking Spy will only come back asking for more money

Well if its Parking Eye you would be the first!

Think about it, it does not fit their business plan, while they chase someone through court they could be fleecing many others. It would actually cost them more then they could recover, Parking Spy know this and don't bother, there are a couple of PPC's who will have a pop just to prove a point. Luckily Parking Spy are not one of them.
