Whilst pressing the SHIFT key, RIGHT CLICK hijack.exe and select RUN AS

    You then need to scan

Im slightly baffled as to how you cant manage this (Unless youve not actually downloaded hijack this)

    It looks like this ~

I've got that far. It's when I try to move on that I get that message that I told you about before. I've tried to move on but the notepad file keeps on coming up as untitled and blank!! I feel such a clutz!!

    Eveything should auto work then

I've tried every which way to copy and paste the log file but haven't been able to do it yet. A log does come up but I can't highlight the whole thing just individual lines. It comes up before I've right clicked HiJack This exe. When I do that the only drop down menu that appears is a menu that says Open/Unpin from Start Menu; Add to Quick Launch/Scan with Malwarebytes/Send to>/Cut; Copy; Create Shortcut; Delete;Rename/Properties. It doesn't say Run As anywhere. I've uninstalled and reinstalled HiJack This. What else can I try other than sending the log in individual lines!!

Did you keep the SHIFT key pressed at the same time?

Aaargh !! I get this all the time. If you are out of your depth stop splashing about ! Pay someone who does this kind of thing all the time to fix it or backup your photos etc and just stick in the system recovery disk Argghh !! I get the trashed computers as a last resort. They are in such a mess that sometimes its better to just wipe and restore. Last one nearly had the wife divorcing him because he had spent every evening for a fortnight trying to sort it out. I had it fixed in a few hours for £ 45 including collection and return.

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner. I've not been on my computer since Friday! Giving it a bit of a rest. Hopefully, fully refreshed I'll give it a go again. Yes, I did keep the shift key pressed all the time (after I remembered which was the shift key!) I tell you, very elderly moment!! I'll try again shortly and let you know.

I fully appreciate what you say Fraserca, and totally agree with you. If I knew anyone reliable that could do this, I'd have done it. Another reason it hasn't been done is because after buying a rogue security system, I've been left fiscally challenged! I have to be careful these days what I buy, this is why I'm doubly annoyed with myself. Ayrshire is too far from Manchester to send my computer!! Thanks for the advice anyway.

Well, that break didn't do me any good. I still can't find anywhere that says 'run as'. If I right click HiJack This exe and the shift key at the same time all I get up is a 'Word Web' Dictionary type of file! I've already uninstalled and reinstalled HiJack This so don't know what else to try. I'll do another scan and see how I go from there.

Still no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled again, and still keep getting the same message. Especially the one that says:'For some reason your system denied write access to the 'Hosts' file, etc'. When I follow the instructions for Vista I don't get the legend 'run as administrator'. I feel defeated!!
