Sorry, repeated a point already in the thread, just hadn't noticed it!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Pure juice in cartons isn't any 'better' for you than a decent high juice. If you really want a pure juice, you either make your own or get the ones that go off in a day from the chiller cabinet and cost loads!!0

Yeah, but its all marketing. I wouldn't go anywhere near Capri-Sun. I used to work with a girl who worked at their Wrexham factory, and she said they get it free for working there. After a couple of days of having 5 of these a day, her skin and scalp got incredibly itchy and she got a terrible rash. Stopped drinking it and rash disappeared.
Sorry, but not a good suggestion!
Dilute your fruit juice with water, it'll be better for his teeth anyway and will last twice as long!:beer:Live better on less :beer:0 -

Why does he need small cartons of juice? Can he not have a refillable cup, and use the big carton which works out cheaper....
I do the washing soda crystals and vinegar thing and vouch for it wholeheartedly.
Buying bigger cartons also reduces the amount of packaging we throw into landfill sites as well as being cheaper.Live better on less :beer:0 -
Reducing the amount you se willl probably help the sensitive skin because less of a residue is left on the clothes. Changing to one then sticking with it will help, switching repeatedly can aggravate it a lot.
Fresh juice/5 a day comments, only one portion of juice counts towards the 5 a day, if you have 10 portions it's it still is classed as 1 portion towards that. Larger cartons are better for the enviroment, better still is making your own with a sack of oranges. I personally won't buy those made from concentrate. Tooth decay and allergies can be an issue with too much fresh juice of course as suggested, water would be better of course for the more frequent drinks, high juice as suggested can be a good alternative if well diluted. My oldest is a bit of a juice junky and if I don't watch his intake his skin flares up badly. One day I might be more organised...........

thanks for all the comments everyone!
I will definately consider the soap nuts thing - I hadnt really heard of them before this, but its definately worth a shot. I am using the fairy in the quanitites shown on the bottle - obviously using too much from your comments! I'll try to water down the amount Ive got left and see how it lasts.
As regards the juice - I do try to only give him one carton a day (his dad would give him a lot more ;(). he does drink water for most of the rest of the days I have him, and at nursery they only give water (or milk at mealtimes) so I dont think I should he harming his teeth in any way. The small cartons are handy, but I totally understand the comments about the environment, so I will buy the bigger cartons from now on, for use at home at least, and maybe only a few Lidl cartons for when hes out and about. I dont suppose he would notice if I water it down either. We may even get a drink at this rate!
thanks again for the ideas. You have all been so kind!Sealed Pot no 20110 -

 What sort of comment is this? In the "5 a day" world we live in, the longer he drinks pure juice the better. My kids are 12 and 13 and they prefer pure juice, yes of course it costs more, but how much better for them than squash with all its added sugars, preservatives and flavourings!
Actually yes, I do have a daughter.
Whilst I suggested that the OP try and wean her son off the 2 cartons of juice a day, I don't recall typing that she should replace them with sugar filled squash.
My daughter sometimes drinks juice, but even then I get her to water it down. The taste is still there, but I do try and make sure that we get our "5 a day" from sources other than juice.
Being a skinflint, I rarely buy juice or squash for that matter and as a result she will quite happily drink water, even when she visits friends who have every variety of juice or squash to offer.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

My daughter has excema and fresh fruit juice really aggravates it.
For laundry I've been using Ecover non bio concentrated for years - use about 1/8th of what they say although I'm currently trying Simply Washing with good results. Only using 1 tablet instead of 2 though.0
