XBOX 360 vs PS3

the older ones are noisy,the newer eltes very much less
maybe take it back and say its not an elite as they said?

the 360 is quite loud but i have got used to it. however the fact that the ps3 is quieter is one thing it has over the 360.
when you say damaged a disc do you mean there is a circular scratch on it and now it wont read it? that is mainly caused by moving the console while there is a disc in it. there was a feature on watchdog about this that suggested stupid things like people walking past it can cause this to happen. if it is the problem you have then your local blockbuster is likely to have a repair service were they fix the disc in a few minutes and they charge 2 or 3 quid to do it.
