XBOX 360 vs PS3

Hi I just got a pre-owned XBOX 360 from Game, the 20gb premium model (even though they told me it was the elite) with two wireless controllers and HDMI cable with pure/batman lego for £120 with two years cover for everything down to accidental damage. I have been playing it a little the last couple of days wit NBA 2K10...
My PS3 owning friends (inc one who got his pre-owned for £170) is ramming it down my throat I should have got the PS3. I pretty much got the console for a few games especially left 4 dead which I have been unable to get cheaply on eba yet as people pay stupid prices and am having major buyers remorse as its going to cost £30 a year for XBOX Live but online gaming is free on PS3...
Thoughts? Please re-assure or suggest options...

A lot of it is down to personal choice, for example I much prefer the X-Box controller. I don't have much experience of PS3 online, but from what I understand X-Box live provided a more 'consistent' feel since you carry your one profile through all games, I don't know if PS3 offers the same thing, as I thought it was down to individual developers to manager multiplayer.
Most big games are available on both platforms, and to my mind 360 has a better range of exclusives (although I'm so disappointed Heavy Rain is PS3 only
). I've seen much better offers and range of preowned/cheap 360 games as well, don't seem, to see as many PS3 games come down in price. 0 -
I still think the PS3 is overpriced personally (considering the Xbox360 can be bought for under £100 new now)
I've had Playstation 1 and still got a PS2 but wont get a PS3 until they have come down in price a bit more.
I'd love to get a PS3 but I'm more than happy on the Xbox for the time being. As above I prefer the Xbox controller and thought the PS3 pad felt very light and "cheap"
You made a good choice, stick with it and enjoy it, dont listen to your mates, you can always trade it in and get a PS3 later when they have dropped in price.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

I bought a 60Gb Xbox 360 last Feb due to the vast price difference between the two consoles and the fact that the games I really wanted to play such as Resident Evil 5 and CoD4 were available on both.
In October I was given a new PS3 slim buy a supplier at work and got a couple of cheap second hand games to get it going.
While I agree with the poster above regarding the controllers, I have improved my PS3 one with a set of Caps4Stix and Real Triggers so that it is more like the 360 one.
As yet I have not seen a major difference between them as I only play games but I do tend to prefer the PS3 for some strange reason.....0 -

Cool, thats fine if you havent paid for the console but if you had spent £300 on a console to then spend more on getting things to make the controllers more like a console half the price would be a bit of a strange thing to do.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

I personally have a PS3.
I wont have an xbox as I hate microsoft.
But general advice is if you want a games machine go for the xbox, if you want an all in one media center AND a games machine then get a PS3
As for online ~ rumour has it that sony are seriously considering starting to charge users to play PS3s online:idea:0 -

So Sony became some sort of co-operative, socialist collective, as opposed to a ruthless capitalist entity just as domineering and agressive as its American rivals? I must have missed the memo.
The PS3 is fine if you're planning on grabbing a Blu-Ray DVD player. If not, it's probably too expensive. The selection of exclusives doesn't mean much, as the 360 has its own roster of Xbox-only games (Mass Effect, L4D, GTA4-DLC, a port of The Orange Box that actually works). But general advice is if you want a games machine go for the xbox, if you want an all in one media center AND a games machine then get a PS3
Basically, this times a thousand.0 -

The reasons I hate them are quite varied, but the basics are theyre total scum liars:idea:0 -
The PS3's big thing is that aside from being a game console, it's also a very good Blu-ray player. IMHO, the Xbox 360 has better exclusive titles (I'm currently playing through Mass Effect 2, and it's fantastic) and cross platform games are generally better on it than the PS3. Online play is free on the PS3, but Xbox Live is a better service in many respects.
They're both fantastic consoles, and I don't think anyone should feel silly for owning either one. They each have their advantages and disadvantages.0
