XBOX 360 vs PS3

  • personally, i woulda gone down the ps3 road rather then the 360 ;)

ps3 is really getting it's act together this year with loads of big title releases that it should of launched with, the price for the machine is down, your getting a tonne more console and blu-ray capabilities, xbox plays dvd's Blu-rays are coming down in price,

if you just wanted a gaming system then fair enough for picking the 360 it just about does the job,
if ya wanted more, ya shoulda got a ps3, you wouldnt of been disappointed ;)
  • They're both fantastic consoles, and I don't think anyone should feel silly for owning either one. They each have their advantages and disadvantages.
    Or, as Yahtzee says:
Speaking as a person who can afford all the consoles, this is probably the most balanced generation of all time, with it all coming down to what you personally want from a machine. The Wii is an excitable little yappy *******, good with children but a little exhausting; the PS3 is a big dependable black monster: slow, but lovingly bringing in your slippers every morning, and the 360 is just a good all rounder that only occasionally ****** itself and dies.
  • I too have PS3 and very much satisfied on that but I never used Xbox before.

I have alsways been a Sony Gamer (PSX and PS2). I even bought the PS2 on Lauchnday which cost me roughly £400

Anyway I swapped over to Xbox 360. I have tried the old Xbox and was impressed and even more now with Xbox 360.

If you take online gaming for example, I am pretty sure that PS Network is not even close to MS XBox Live, which is also confirmed by some of my friends who own both Consoles. We usually compare the Big titles like COD6 (MW2) and Socom which we used to play on the PS2 already. The lag is unbelievable on Sonys Network, which always makes us play XBox together.

You can argue that you have to pay extra for XBL but all services come through 1 provider, which in this case is MS and that makes everything kind of equal. I never had any problems since Christmas 2008, when the XBL Network crashes due to MW1. They constantly upgrade the system.

You have plenty of options on the Marketplace, Zune etc...

Putting all things together, my honest opinion is that Sony is not even close to MS. Over the last few years Sony has lost the battle against MS Xbox though not the war, mind you! The only real arguement is Blue-Ray.

Xbox 360 all the way for me!

btw: To hate Microsoft is one thing, but to stick with Sony on the other hand is not much better. They are no charity and do want the same from you: YOUR MONEY!

My PS3 owning friends (inc one who got his pre-owned for £170) is ramming it down my throat I should have got the PS3. I pretty much got the console for a few games especially left 4 dead which I have been unable to get cheaply on eba yet as people pay stupid prices and am having major buyers remorse as its going to cost £30 a year for XBOX Live but online gaming is free on PS3...

Thoughts? Please re-assure or suggest options...

You've answered your own question. You wanted a console specifically to play certain games which are unavailable to the other. Enjoy it.

XBL is without question well worth the annual subscription (don't pay for it monthly, it ends up costing double) compared to PSN. I have both and I find XBL to be a more complete environment and I prefer to game with people who aren't shy of getting on the headset.

When you compare the consoles together, each will have some things they do better and some things they don't. So far we've seen ported games being better on the Xbox 360 than the PS3, but then there's been some excellent exclusives on the PS3.

My advice would usually be to get the same console as your friends if you're looking to play multiplayer games as playing with people you know is much better than playing with people you don't, but if the games aren't available to do that then you've got to do what you want to do.

I have X Box super elite.

IMHO, there is very little to choose between the hardware. The choice is determined by which games you prefer and more importantly if you play on line, what console your friends use.

Some hard core gamers have both.

Figure I'll just bite the bullet with XBOX Live and stop fretting the money.
  • This old chestnut!! You're going to see fanboys from both camps telling you why one is better than the other.

I've owned both and I think the PS3 is better - for me! The xbox may well be better for you though. However, for me, the Blu Ray player and free online is right up my street.
  • I know what you mean about fretting the money etc. I have been putting off getting my first xbox for months now and finally bit the bullet this weekend.

even after a few hours it's definately worth it. XBL costs anywhere from £25 a year if you look around - Just do it. Enjoy it, you only live once

Cool, thats fine if you havent paid for the console but if you had spent £300 on a console to then spend more on getting things to make the controllers more like a console half the price would be a bit of a strange thing to do.

    I agree.

However the total cost for both was about £4.

Games like MW2 also have MadCatz (sp?) specific controllers but I hate the idea of third party controllers due to bad experiences with the PS1 & 2.
