I've got a consultation on wednesday to approve my flexible working arrangement (one that's been in place for over a year, but the company is clamping down due to abuse of the system). Basically, I want to leave work at 2:15pm Mon-Wed so that I can pick up my son from school, and then do another 3 hours work at home on those days. My husband has an agreement that he can work longer on Mon-Wed, and leave at 2:00pm on Thurs-Fri, for the same reason. If the company decides to say no then I'm not quite sure what I'll do - but someone has pointed out to me that as they've been letting me do this for a year then they have to have a damn good reason for stopping the arrangement now...

Good luck for Wednesday onlyroz xx
They have to give you a very good business reason for why they do not think it would work ... but as you say you have already been doing it and you know it works .. so they will find it very difficult to change you now !!

I was only thinking about this thread yesterday!

Hope you are all well. We have had a great day out in the garden today....children playing whilst I did some gardening, getting ready some space for the trampoline we are getting them. OH was out last night at a reunion so he stayed on the sofa most of the afternoon as we are no good at late nights anymore!

Im going to bounce this back to the top cause i need help and advice!!!

I have a 3 year old DS and a 5 month old DD, i am married but my H works random hours and often till late night so cannot rely on him for helping with childcare.
I work full time (at home on our own business but although im at home im solidly at the computer as its so busy!) DS goes to preschool at 9am and my DD goes to mums, mum also picks DS up at 2pm and takes him back to theirs. I pick them up at 6pm.
I need to get into a routing, especially as my DD is going to start weaning, i need to get organised with regards to cooking, bath, bed, at the moment its a bit like choas and the house can sometime look like it too!
I often put my DS to bed just so i can get on top of the housework etc but i feel like the only time i spend any quality time is at the weekend when i make sure that he gets lots of attention.
    How do working mums cope???

If anyone has any schedules that work pleeassseee pass them on!!!
  • Hello  I'm another long-time lurker on the SAHMs thread but don't feel that I am a legitimate member as I work part-time in our business. I work around our children's school/nursery times as much as possible. I know I could do more both at home and work-wise if I just put a little more effort into planning and preparing my days.

Nice to meet everyone! Hopefully, you'll inspire me to create the perfect work-life balance while making oodles of money :D

    Hi

I think I need to join, I feel like such a bad mother today!

DD was unable to go to a party today as I had not rung to confirm attendance, I rung this morning and left a message asking if she could go and they did not come back to me so I didn't just want to take her!!
So either they know I am useless with party invitations so decided to teach me a lesson or they were busy!!

I have had the invitation 2 months and I still did not email or ring them!!

Why did I not do it?

DD was gutted although she did not ask about the party until 7.30 pm (the party was 4 - 6), she was crying and I really felt like crying as well!!

I work part time, volunteer 2 days a week (although I am cutting this down) and although I have a DH sometimes it feels like I do everything. And I am on a committee which can involve lots of paperwork.

I must get my life more organised, I could fit everything in if I had a schedule to keep to. If DH is relaxing in the evenings, watching TV I think to myself why should I do housework so I relax by coming on MSE or doing surveys etc.

I am very organised with regard to bedtime as I know if my daughter is late getting to bed she is a horror in the mornings!! Also I try not to let the TV go on in the mornings as it is too distracting and if they are watching a half an hour show that is half an hour when they should have been getting ready for school!
I really notice the difference when I have not been strict with this rule - lots of tears and tantrums normally.
