Sorry I am slightly confused, the master socket is by the front door right?
It could be anywhere - it's recognised as it usually has a split along the middle. The BT test socket is under the panel of the master socket which has to be unscrewed right?
That's correct.
Doing this will then cut off all your extension sockets so if you use a phone in the other sockets it will no longer work.0 -
Thank you Jem you have been great help. How do you know about these problems have you come accross this yourself or are you some sort of engineer?
I wont bother tampering around with rewiring im in rented accommodation and the landlord can deal with this himself. The 3meg should be alright for now I dont mind using the BT socket instead of the extension sockets.:D

I sorted it out myself recently when I took up O2 after being with Virgin for BB for many years. I lost out on around 2Mb before I sorted out the internal wiring.I wont bother tampering around with rewiring im in rented accommodation and the landlord can deal with this himself. You can buy an i-plate which won't need any tampering around with wiring.
The problem with using the test socket is leaving the faceplate unattached disconnects all your extensions so if you need them for a phone you are stuck.0 -
we dont use a landline in our house so thats not a problem. But ye I have only got 2 more month left in this place then I have to leave. I'll let the landlord sort this one out later on down the line
Cheers for your help0
