o2 broadband poor in my area

Furthermore I also plugged the router into the master socket and ran a speed test again and I was still getting round the 1.4meg mark. Whatever socket I plug it in I get the same download speed
Your attenuation is now reported as 60dB which is strange because normally the attenuation reported remains pretty much constant but is probably just because it is now running ADSL2+. It also looks like O2 have applied a 9dB target noise margin presumably because your line has been unstable.0 -
Hi Jem & Mac, I resetted the router and the following results are below. I stuck a corded phone into the master socket to see if I can hear any noise however the line was clear and there was no fuzzing noise. I did a test on my broadband speed and the maximum I am getting his 1.4meg. Furthermore I also plugged the router into the master socket and ran a speed test again and I was still getting round the 1.4meg mark. Whatever socket I plug it in I get the same download speed
You need to use the BT test socket for this test-this is behind the master socket faceplate, undo the two screws and remove the lower half, assuming it is a modern NTE5 type. This isolates your internal wiring.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi guys,
I did exactly what I was told! and I took the panel off from the master sock and hooked the router up. I ran a normal broadband speed check over the internet and it surprisingly went up to 3 meg!! :j The line test (hooked up to master socket) is

I think all of you guys have helped me fix my problem. Thank you very much to all of you! your help was very much been appreciated hopefully now our net should operate quicker!!! :j0

However sometimes when I run a broadband speed check the speed goes up to only 2meg therefore it fluctuates at different times!0

Unless you are going to leave it like that you need to sort out what the problem is with your extensions.
Were you using plug in extensions or are there wires connected to the faceplate?
It is normal to see variations in sync depending on the time of day you booted up the router. If you sync during the day it may run into problems overnight and resync slower although as you appear to have a 9dB target noise margin it may be stable with the extension wiring problem removed. Download speeds may also vary generally being slower when more people are online (evenings) although O2 LLU seems to be pretty immune to that - I guess losing 1Mb is neither here nor there if you are getting 16Mb but is a big deal if you only get 2Mb.0 -

You need to make it clear-these results are when connected to the BT test socket, not to the master socket? Because you say 'took the panel off' and then 'hooked up to master socket'. It can't be both.
If the former, and the results are fairly consistent on that socket, then the problem lies with your internal wiring. The problem has not been solved, but at least you have identified where the fault lies. You now need to trace the fault in your extension wiring, or rewire it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Your extension wiring is bringing down your speed. Do you use your extensions for other phones etc?
You can try following this;

Sorry I am slightly confused, the master socket is by the front door right?
The BT test socket is under the panel of the master socket which has to be unscrewed right?0 -
previously before I was using extension sockets for the router. There are extension sockets in all rooms and I have tested all of them out and it gives me a broadband speed of maximum 1.4meg0
