I buy from their store all the time, they have PLENTY of revenue..I stood at the till for 6 MINUTES with serious stomach pain (I have crohn's disease) constantly asking to have the forms and pay and the staff were so concerned with looking at their nails or looking at the hamster...the way the staff on my 1st visit back tried to accuse me of hurting the hamster in the first place...I put it as compensation for bad service and failing to notice an injured animal..as someone mentioned he probably would not have been 'put back on the market', they couldn't find him when we came back for him for ages.
Plus i am sure if i had rung up and said, oh i didn't pay for a hamster they would not have expected me to drive back 20 miles and have the embarassement that someone had walked out of their store in full view, being waved off by their staff, without paying.

Hey just read your story on here, got my hamster from P@H nearly 2 years ago. It bought a smile to my face seeing you call him lil guy. When I got my hamster I couldn't think of a name for him, I dunno why but I'm terrible with pet names, my 2 goldfish don't even have names
Anyway we started to call him lil fella and lil guy and now its stuck, he went to the vets last year to have his teeth trimmed and hes actually on record as Fella
Tbh I didn't really think much to P@H but the local petshop didn't have any hamsters in, the local garden centre that used to have a pet section had closed down so P@H was my only choice. When I bought him they weren't really bothered about him as a hamster, they just bunged him in a box, which he'd chewed through within 5 minutes of leaving the shop. They were more concerned about whether or not I'd buy this and that to go with him to increase the amount of money I paid
To be honest they are just like a supermarket though, and I know I'll get criticised for this but most places that sell animals are only interested in the money. They never bred the hamsters because they loved them, they bred them to sell them on so I dunno why people have such a problem with whats been said in this thread.
To a business owner a hamster is an it, the same as a loaf of bread or a new tv. Their not bothered about the actual product, their bothered about the profit.
I won't be happy if I'm insulted for saying what I believe, because I'm an animal lover. I have a hamster nearly 2 years old, 2 fish that are 3 or 4 years old and up until Tuesday when he was put down I had a dog that was 14.
Buying an animal from any breeder is a form of animal rescueJust me, in my own little world

I hate to add this, but we knew a chap who was involved in a business way with one of these breeding companies. He was horrified when he learnt any dodgey or sick looking animals were cremated - and I mean, burnt to death when still alive.0 -

I had a robo. He was meeeeeean. Can't remember where I got him, think one of my dads friends daughter had grown bored of him.
He used to launch a full scale attack on my hand whenever it went in his cage. One time he wouldn't let go and I was running around my bedroom with this tiny wee hamster glued to my finger, and screaming my head off (cause it hurt!) he did finally let go and he bounced so all good. Was only trying to give him some more food! How ungrateful lol
I remember once I managed to pick him up and he jumped off my hands and ran into the living room, my mum hates all animals and she started freaking out, screaming like a girl etc etc. I thought it was pretty funny.
I was gutted when he died, even though he was mean, he was funny to watch, I erm tried to give him mouth to mouth, as he was breathing but every 20 seconds or so, I probably didn't help him, but I was 14, and thought it would.

Amethyst_ice, just ignore posts like this. They have nothing to do with what you asked on here originally, but, unfortunately, have become all too common on these forums

I'm sorry but what a completely ridiculous thing to say. I can't believe people are supporting you in this or indeed this site is by displaying your post.
STEALING IS ILLEGAL - END OF.
I hate how people on here slag off pets at home but then continue to use them. As far as I can see you have taken this hamster in with an injury which you stated above was not caused by them, they have paid for the medical treatment, given you free further treatment to take with you and then you have just walked out.
My sister works for pets at home and I dont know about other branches but they in particular will do anything for their animals. e.g. one of their giant rabbits had a leg fracture, cost over £1000 to get put right knowing they would not be abe to sell it as it would be over age, and then put it into their adoption area.
I would expect you to go back. I would call it morals and common decency. You are no better than any common thief whatever you say your reasons were.0 -

Yes my original post was to know if i had any consumer rights to be able to have priority over the animal. Thank you for noticing.
To the people calling me a thief...well...i rang the store this morning and told them i had not paid, they laughed and said that it hadn't shown up on their till receipts they were down £8.50 and not to worry. In fact they didn't even remeber what i was talking about and thought that the 'gammy foot' hamster had died anyway.
I did not purposely hide the box under my arm and run out with a swag bag and a balaclava!!!
Jesus..i am sure there are plenty of people out there who may forget to pay for something, i stood at the till for 6 minutes with my purse out, the hamster on the till side, asking several times, do i have to fill the forms out again, will you need to scan in the probiotics...they just ignored all of it and told me to get to the car because it was cold. Some may view that as the staff 'allowing' me to have him.
Stop calling me a thief. I thought this forum was to give advice to people..which was my original question as so far i have just been given abuse about buying from a 'money making' chain store...then moaned at for not giving them £8.50..which would increase their profits anyway!!!
To all who care- the lil guys toe is healing well, the scab has nearly fallen off and he is a lovely little chappie. A little nervous still but has been eating chicken to boost him up and seems to be settling in well.
I have donated £8.50 to an RSPCA collection box at my supermarket so call that the end of this story.

I'm sorry but I'm a regular visitor to pets at home and they certainly don't do everything for their animals. On regular occasions I have seen fish that are dead or dying in their tanks fish with illnesses that are really easy to cure like fin rot.
I seen a rabbit last week that was dead I eventually found a member of staff to tell them and they said oh ok thanks.
Now tell me that they care for the animals so much.0
