• aww well they said 2- 3 days but surely it would be longer than that...and he said that when a hamster gets a toe caught it naturally falls off...ive never heard of this??!

I will have a disabled hammy bless..recon they will discount him? i just want him back, hes in one of those lifeless cages now with no peanuts and nice things :(
Need a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!
• Please phone up to see how he is, my niece worked for a VERY well known pet store, and any animal that wasn't up to par , ie, wasn't going to make any £, was quickly despatched to rainbow bridge!
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

omg really??? How could they do that? I emailed P@H and asked what happened to unsold pets and they told me they were sent to a shelter or the staff took them.

Surely the RSPCA wouldn't allow that sort of thing?

We will ring them, we got our other hamster because we didn't like the way he was being kept..which i suppose is feeding th supply and demand but what animal now adays isn't being abused by the marketing industry :(

• I doubt they'll give a refund, they didnt if with us, not that I thought about asking for one, we were just pleased Gingey was well enough to come home!!

Yeah hamster toes can and do fall off! If an injury occurs like the one your hammy has then it's normal for the blood supply to cease flowing to that area which will result in it going gangerinous and dropping off.

Always take them to the vet before this happens though in case any infection takes hold! They are very good healers and your hamster won't be affected by having 1 less toe!!
• we already have a refund, we have to 'buy him back' so to speak.

They recon it got caugt on the cage but i think it was more hammys fighting tbh. Just hope the anti biotics work and we have him home soon so we can start that lovely process of taming him and geting to see what sort of personality he has ^_^ on that note, its bin night and i got 2 cages to clean! hehe ,

ps . can u pot pics on here, id love to see the lil gingey guy i been hearing about! x

• Sorry yeah I meant discount not refund!

I'm sure your hamster will be fine, might be worth buying some pro-biotic powder from P@H when you pick him up to put in his water, either that or give him a small amount of natural yoghurt! Antibiotics can damage the good bacteria in hamsters' guts, resulting in them not being able to digest/absorb nutrients from their food. The powder and/or yoghurt will help prevent it and maybe give just a tiny bit of cooked chicken, will help build him up after the antibiotics and is also a nice treat. Ours love it!

Yeah I can post pics of Gingey, will do that in the morning as they are on our other laptop!! Might post some of the others too................we have 8 of them!

Pet supermarkets are businesses like any other, they are not animal welfare charities. If you are unhappy about the way they treat/ or attitude to any animal don't encourage the trade by purchasing pets there.

My neighbour bought two male mice from P@H for her four and six year olds. A week later they had 5 babies. She rang and they casually said just bring them back for an exchange.

They were her boys pets for goodess sake!

She asked if she could exchange them when the babies had been weaned and rehomed. They said no, they would do that for her. She had to bring them back that day or not at all. She said the disturbance would likely kill them but they said it would be OK to just pop them into another cage.

In the end she rehomed them herself - keeping two same sex.

I guess the moral of the story here is not to support the trade in live animals in pet stores and buy direct from a responsible breeder.
A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.

Hi

I agree. I avoid P@H apart from buying bits and pieces from there. I never buy livestock from them. I tend to support my local petshop who are more knowledgeable and actually seem to care about the animals.
