Asked to speak to manager, after another 10 they returned with a cage saying they found him, i insisted on looking him over...was my lil guy
same box i brought him in, nice to know he was being kept ok though, nice cage, wheel etc he is deff missing a toe but the scab has gone down. I asked if they would throw in some probiotics after the trouble I have gone through, she went to confirm with manager so i got that free. Then i took him to the till to pay, another woman opened the box to look at who the fuss was about..I asked if i had to fill another form..they were ignoring me, told us to egt to the car quickly as it was cold so I thought...F it, they didn't cause the injury, ive had lots of car journeys, ive offered to pay and they ignored me so fine! So after all that i got him free lol
Good job i brought the cage, he chewed through the box after 5 mins!!!
I got a pic, will upload in a bit, but yay!!!! xXx
I'm pleased you got him back but I do think you should have paid especially as you say in your post they didn't cause the injuryDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I love the irony of the situation;
OP purchases a product. Product is faulty, so they return it to the store. OP then moans how P@H refer to the animals as "it" and treat them like items.
If you were that concerned, you would have taken the hamster to a local vet. It's surely fairly obvious that taking an animal to a retailer who are interested in profits are going to do the bare minimum to "fix" your hamster. I wouldn't be surpised if that one ends up in a bin, and they fob you off with a new one - even going so far as telling you it's the same one.
That is an interesting point - I bought a rabbit from a pet shop. As soon as I got him home, I noticed he had a sore looking nose. He went straight to the vet, had to be hospitalised for tests. He was then diagnosed with ringworm - which I promptly caught  I did go back to the shop, and the owner did tell me I should have returned the rabbit but I was really loathe to do so. Instead I asked him to meet the vets bills. He refused - even with a letter formally giving a diagnoses and outlining the treatment from the vet. However, I felt that I had bought the rabbit and so he was my responsibility and secondly I was genuinely concerned as to what might happen to him if I gave him back to the shop owner.
Anyway, it cost me £125 and the rabbit (Stan) is now a real beast of a rabbit, he is big and handsome and well. A testament to my care, I think0 -

I meant to put they didnt notice the injury, i didnt cause it (if you see my earlier points they tried to accuse me of doing it). i typed fast because i was so happy to get him home.
I don't feel bad not paying, i stood at the till for 6 minutes constantly saying, shall i fill all the forms out again whilst holding my purse, the shop is 30 mins away so i have already had 4 unnecessary trips back n forth in petrol....they are a large company, im sure the £8.50 will not put them out of business!

Amethyst_ice, that's a lovely story - I'm so, so pleased he's home! :T:T:T
My DD's bought their hammys from P&H 2.5 yrs ago. They were paying for the hammy's and hammy toys out of their Xmas money, we were paying for the hutches. Both DD's were clutching Hammys in their boxes itching to leave. We told the girls to pay, and they said they had, we paid for the hutches and then left the store. In the car, I asked the girls how much they had left (Xmas money) and whatever it was, I knew they had too much left. I asked them how comes if they'd paid for the hammy's and toys - they then said no, the hammys hadn't been paid for, that the lady had said I had to pay for them as they weren't allowed to sell pets to children etc. etc.
Anyway, we were nearly home (15 miles away) and the shop would have been shut by the time we went back.
In the morning, literally first thing, we phoned the store to tell them what had happened - they had guessed this after we'd left. I told them I'd be down later on that same day - and they asked me not too, saying that they had just put them through as dead stock :eek: (they're still well and happy now!!!).

. They will happily get food out of my hand or try and run up my arm, but they're not the type I could hold in my hands and sit on the sofa with.
But I can lean into the playbox and interact with them there (I use a plastic ball to transport them from cage to box - they are quite happy to jump into it) and they love foraging about in a different space for a while.
Robos are so different to Syrians (which I owned for many years) but completely delightful in their own way.
Aww that sounds so cute!!! Wispa will eat out of our hands as well but I can sit with him in my hands cos he isnt as fast as the robos lol
But you are all making me consider robos in the futureare they better off with cage mates?
YAY for having him home Amethystthats fab news!!!

Awww it's so great you have him back! Hope all the problems are over for him now.
I think some people are being very harsh in their attitude towards you on here.....you sound like a very competant and caring animal owner to me

Mine are in together and were bought togetherthey have had a couple of play fights (common for them to do this apparently and it's quite funny to watch,it's like a little camp bi tch fight just standing on hind legs waving their hands and each others in that silly slapping manner:rotfl:) but they are good together,no proper fights.
Apparently Robos mate for life too unlike others so they are ok together and can quite like companyIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

Thankyou, I was feeling a little attacked my some people. I know he is just a small animal, some people laugh at me because I have hamsters and im 22 but the company and entertainment they provide are priceless. I could have left him at the shop and got a 'healthy' hammy but i promised him i would come back for him and he may not have understood but i stuck to my guns
I do hate large pet shops but i know there are caring people in them, the saturday staff didnt put much faith but when i returned they were all being really nice. I have had some excellent advice on his aftercare from here and the shop so despite him missing a digit he should have a happy life with us now
I would love robos, have you seen the hamster agility video on youtube, its amazing!!! The last spare cage i have has too wide bars for robos though and i cant afford another one atm. I looked after my schools ones in high school but he was really old and left me for the hammy world after a week! they are commical lil things but anyone who is going to get them handle them often..my friends lil robo- ruby- she was lovely but get near her and she'd go mental at the bars and whip your finger off! RIP rubykins! xNeed a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0 -

LMAO!!!naughty hamster lol
Mine are really good with that (well technically their my sons but I do the cleaning out etc) they come over to the bars and stand on hind legs or climb up to give you a little sniff if you are anywhere near them, can't walk past the cage without them running over!
They are very comical aren't they and with all the adventure playground stuff you can get it's hilariousIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
We jjust moved Indy to the biggest wire cage i could find because he LOVES monkey barring, wont go in tubes or anything, very fussy. I watched him for 45 mins last night doing laps over his wooden ladders, hammock, wooden bridge and toadstool...he also realised it has a bell on which he kept tapping with his paw and nose, majory cuteness!!
I want robos now!! xNeed a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0
