Biggest problem IMO as a parent of 2 with eczema and a partner with it is using too much powder. I can use bio no problem at all but I use a tablespoon of it at the most with the same of soda crystals, making sure it leaves as little as possible on the clothing means less of a reaction (makes sense really) The other huge issue that causes reactions is frequently switching them. I'd use something for at least 2 weeks before changing even back to another.
I was told by my son's dermatologist to use Ecover, with no fabric softener. A bottle has lasted me absolutely ages (since November so far!) as I wash all his clothing and bedding separate. His eczema was horrendous though. It has improved a good bit but this is probably due to his treatment as well. I'm not changing back though as I don't want to tempt fate, and if you'd seen the state of his skin you'd try anything, despite the cost - although the Ecover liquid I bought was only £4.0 -

I use Ecover as well as I don't like the strong chemicals in more 'popular' brands, some of which used to cause irritation. Am currently seeing how many washes I can get from a bottle, I find one capful is enough for my clothes so in that respect it's not looking too expensive either.
I used to get mild eczema and dermatitis but haven't had it since changing to organic toiletries/eco type cleaning products.0 -
I use Tesco value powder in the washing machine and in the dishwasher. Works great for me.
For dark clothes I use my homemade liquid.
1/4 bar soap grated
1 cup Washing soda
1 cup borax/borax substitute/Napisan
Boil up in large saucepan and decant into milk plastic bottle (4 ltrs) when cool.
Works out about 50p.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Tesco currently have Persil Small and Mighty 20 wash half price for £2.09, it is on offer until 24th Feb. I have recently converted to using liquid detergent than powder and must say I am impressed with the results.0
