Hi could anyone advise me on where to buy the cheapest half-decent laundry detergent? We have a tescos, sainsburys and lidl all within travelling distance but no aldi.

The cheapest would be to use half washing powder and mix with half soda cristals, I did this for a wile. I now use Ariel gel as I find it washes the clothes well and removes any stains. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Lidl stuff is pretty good, have used both the powder and liquid. Also they sometimes have Arial on offer. I bought a couple of boxes of Arial tablets for about £4 each and am using them one tablet (or less
) per load so they work out pretty cheap.
Home Bargains usually have cheap washing powder but I have not tried it so can`t comment on how good it is.0 -
Thankyou. Is the washing powder Lidls own brand?0

Is it still cheaper to mix soda crystals in with washing powder? Soda crystals are nearly £1 now and you don't get a very big bag
I tend to use whatever washing powder is on special offer but if none can be found then the lidl stuff is good, can't remember the name of it though (I wouldn't buy the non-bio one though, it didn't clean well and made my washing machine smell)0 -

Believe it or not - try Marks and Spencer - they have liquid at buy one get one free at the moment and it washes really, really well. They do the offer every few months and I always stock up.
Bottles are about £4.30 something (630mls - 18 washes) but with a BOGOF it's 36 washes for the money:T.:hello:0 -
Yes Lidl sell their own brand of both liquid and powder, sorry can`t remember the name on the label. Doesn`t say Lidl but will be obvious in store from the high piles of the stuff.0

Asda's (if you can get to one or have delivered) Smart Price Biological is about the cheapest around and I find it perfectly acceptable. 69.6p per kg for the large packs. That's gone up from 50p per kg before the recession and it didn't used to be worth buying the big packs but now there's about 30p difference in the price per kg:eek:. I, also, gave up adding soda when the price rocketed.0

Have never used biological powder. Is it ok to use with kids?0

That will depend on them - some people (and pets) are sensitive to it. You may want to try a small pack first, just in case it makes them itchy!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
