If you can get to a Costco there own brand (Kirkland) works out at 2p a wash if you use the recommended amount - I use less and its OK, washes our clothes fine.

I have been making my own washing gel for a few months i saw a thread on ebay forums about it here
http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100273003&tstart=0&mod=1266682380070 . If the link is no good go to forums, family home and garden and its called errrrmmm "Homemade Cleaners, take #2happy.gifhappy.gifhappy.gif"
The thread about it is 500 posts plus but have a skim through.

Bascially i make smallest size so make 5 and a half litres for about £1.50! Lots of people have mentioned execema and that they have used this ok. Its really easy to make grating the soap takes the longest its so quick and easy and CHEAP to do.

I usually use aldis but am happy to use either the Asda value brand or the happy shopper one from my local corner shop! all are excellent and i have very sensitive skin and have never had a prob with them where I cant use Ariel or Daz as it brings me out in a rash!

  • I have always used Asda smart price washing powder and my dd has really bad excema and its the only one that doesnt make her itch! I only use 2 dessertspoons of powder per wash

Both my son and I have bad eczema and asda smartprice washing powder is one of the few that does not cause either of us to start scratching!!
  • I mix a box of Tesco branded washing powder with a box of their bio value stuff, and two bags of washing soda crystals. It cleans clothes well and doesn't leave a strong smell. That mixture, using the big boxes, lasts us (family of 4) about 5 months, doing about 5/6 washes a week. I'm not heavy handed with it, but I use an old cardboard scoop from an Ecover powder box and fill it just less than half full - guestimating about 2 level tablespoons.

I cant use powder in my machine as even the tiniest little bit leaves white marks on my clothes so I have to use gel and this has me really intrigued!! Can I ask though - where do you buy your Borax?? I know it can be bought online but was wondering which shops (if any) you can buy it in. I live in the middle of knowhere and dont have a huge range of shops but I am hopeful :D

I've been using Lidl's washing powder for the last 6 years now and find it really good. It's called Formil and comes in Bio, Non-Bio and Colour varieties.

The big box normally lasts me for about 4 months at a time, which is handy given that my nearest Lidl is a 3 hour ferry crossing and then an hour in the car away!

DH has sensitive skin and we've found that Formil doesn't aggravate it, so tend to buy a box every time we're away.
