I think these sort of 'Quality Guarantees' are slightly different from a genuine Try Me Free promotion.

Most products give you the option of writing to the manufacturer if you are not satisfied with the product - which is slightly different from TMF offers, which are more about personal taste. Having said that, the elaborate terms and conditions on some TMF's can make it hard to differentiate.
I agree with jo_b on this one - there are quite a few products around that word their quality guarantee in this sort of way. Proper TMFs and MBGs are more like a promotion with a limited duration, whereas quality guarantees like this are quite general and apply any time. :)

Fair enough if you've got a genuine complaint about a product, though! (And even if there is no quality guarantee on something, and you're really dissatisfied, it's always worth contacting the manufacturer) :)

Thanks for the help with the description/ photo of Chicago Town Takeaway pizza. Found it in Asda yesterday so free dinner last night. OH keeps asking me to buy coconut actimel so that bit of promo worked for them as I would not have brought it previously.

Yes I know. But since I have seen MBG items posted in this thread as well, I thought I would post the one I found. I'll keep it to myself next time. Was just trying to help. Also, if people don't have positive things to say, can they keep their remarks to theirselves? I'm just getting to the point where it seems like every time I post something positive or try to be helpful, someone negative comes along and makes me wonder why I even bother posting.
  • Don't take it personally daviddonna. The poster was just making it clear that this is not a true TMF. Thanks for sharing, but it was just to make sure to those who aren't used to the TMF process that this one isn't a straight forward MGB. It doesn't actually specifically state that you will receive your money back.

    Hi daviddonna,

I'm sorry you felt like we were being negative - please don't take it personally. :) I know you were trying to help, and this thread depends entirely on people's contributions, otherwise there would be no point having it if we had to search for offers ourselves. :o

Quite often on the internet it's very tricky trying to phrase things so that they wouldn't be misinterpreted. It was not my intention to sound horrible at all, and I'm sure I can safely say it wasn't what Jo meant either.

I consider this thread one of the most friendly and helpful threads on MSE and would hate it if someone thought it wasn't.

The only point we were trying to make is that the guarantee that you mentioned is not exactly what this thread is about. It is often a very fine line between TMFs and MBGs on one hand and quality guarantees on the other hand, and we have discussed this many times in the past.

The Asda 200% guarantee is a good example: it's featured on all of Asda's own brand products, but because it's not a promotion as such, it's not really what we are looking for here, if you see what I mean? I think the key word here is offer or promotion (especially, as davodedthomas pointed out, when a refund is mentioned) - that's what we are looking for, not so much the general guarantee of quality.

I fully appreciate that this distinction is often not straightforward, but having done TMFs for years, I do see a difference between the two types.

The main point is, though, to not discourage you from posting. Please don't feel like anyone was having a go at you - it was just a small clarification. :o This thread needs all of us!

That's ok. On the first page, it states:

    "ALL CURRENT TMF/MBG PROMOTIONS"

    You've written it here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=228883

That's the only reason I posted it. I'll just keep it to myself from now on.

I'm really sorry if my reply caused you any offence. I wasn't criticising your post (in fact I did actually thank it). :o I was just pointing out that there is some difference between a TMF promotion and a Quality Guarantee.
I did also indicate in my original response that the T+Cs with some TMFs can make the difference very hard to see. :o

My response certainly wasn't meant to be negative so please don't let it put you off posting. Just because somebody may have a differing opinion doesn't necessarily mean that they are dismissing your post or the value of it.

On a lighter note, I managed to find the Chicago Town pizza in Tesco yesterday.;) Free food always tastes so much nicer. :)

Found this completely by accident when paying for hubby's petrol (hadnt read this thread - oops). They are two for £1.30 in Sainsbury's.

If you do buy them make sure you keep the cardboard collar - that is all you need to claim your refund - no receipts or 15 word statements.
