Oh I love this forum....such great answers from people that can't EVEN READ....yes that means you dmg!! Who said i can't prepare a meal for myself?? As I said earlier the meals I've been preparing are ready meals/beans etc...

It so amuses me how irate people get....healy & Tobruk & SusiQ have given great answers & my thsnks to them. I think I'll possibly do what Susiq says & see a benefits advisor..can't hurt can it?

    Making my day this is.....

So what care and mobility needs do you have, if you apparently can cook a meal, but choose not to? DLA is not awarded on what you choose not to do, it is awarded according to what your disability prohibits you from doing.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I'll ask the benefits advisor dmg...sure they'll tell me! As healy said...it's unlikely I'd get any DLA but if the benefits advisor thinks there's a chance then why not? Not holding my breath though...

If you are stressed with the situation you are in, perhaps focusing on making changes would be best, rather than going through a stressful process with little chance of 'success'. Is this 'stress' likely to last, especially as your partner has made a significant recovery?

  • I've seen the DLA form...long but hardly stressfull. Like I said...I'll call them but pretty sure they'll say no chance but they're the experts....this 'stress' is more than likely depression so who knows how long it will last?

If you need someone else to tell you, then you do not have care needs!

Surely if you think it's "more than likely depression" you should see your GP first and get an official diagnosis? This will then allow him/her to sort out possible treatment to help you to [hopefully] deal with it and and make positive changes to your life to help you cope better and return to a normal working life etc.

This would surely be more important for you to focus on first, as this could help you to make long-term improvements to your life?

As far as the DLA application goes it's irrelevant want your illness is, it's how it affects your care/mobility needs as a result of your condition.
  • Thanks guys....logging off this topic now.

It's not quite clear from your post - are you actually attending the 'support to recovery' counselling group?

Well at least i work!!!! do you?:money:

I worked for 28 years as a nurse, midwife, health visitor, however I have been off work for almost 2 years following illness which turned out to be cancer. I am in the recovery period now from the operations and treatment and will be back to work as soon as my physical problems allow for the long shifts (ie when I'm not running to the loo all the time as I no longer have a colon.) So although I am not so needy and entitled to benefits as you, obviously ( you being young and fit and me being almost twice your age and having a lifelimiting illness) yes I am at the moment recieving income support plus CTC. Is that OK with you?

The difference between you and me is that I have had no choice in my situation-whereas you delight in telling everyone that you have chosen your current p/t work and benefit claim. If everyone was like you the economy would collapse. You are an absolute disgrace, but blast away at me if you like-when you've faced your own mortality someone like you is like flicking a louse off my shoulder.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • OP, I don't mean to be rude, but many carers are under considerable stress for much of the time. I have been caring for my son for almost twelve years and he still needs feeding orally at least four times a night. This doesn't include his other night time problems or any of his daytime problems. Yes, it is stressful and yes, I have at times been depressed, but instead of considering claiming DLA, I have contacted my doctor and the local Carer's Centre. TBH, I don't think I could get DLA even if I tried, as I can still look after myself and care for my son and other two children. Instead, I make an effort to work through stress (I've just taken up badminton) and I do voluntary work that fits in with my children's needs, so this helps me to remain positive and gives me a life that is separate from caring.

Perhaps you could contact your local Carer's Centre for support? Our local centre is great. If you can't get to a centre, contact carer's UK or the Princess Anne Trust for carer's for advice and support.
