Can I join too please? Had a go at tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and beans last year but they were all wiped out in the Sheffield floods :( Trying again this year.

wilkos also do the ph soil testing thing - i got one last week and it was only about four pounds - the kind you can reuse over and over too, not like some kits where you spend a lot and can only use them once! It also checks the moisture levels of your soil, so not a bad gadget for the cheap price..... as long as it works!! :rotfl:

Oh, and from the earlier discussion about growing in containers, these links below gives info on what you can sow in containers:

Another enthusiastic new allotment holder here! This thread is really useful, full of great info. I wonder if it is ok to plant ordinary potatoes that have sprouted rather than proper seed potaotes?

You can do and people in fact do so you just need to be carefull though as they can be diseased which can spread through your crop

I NEED to get to Wilkinsons, everyone keeps mentioning the gardening bargains. I was there a couple of months back but I wasn't thinking about gardening then was focussing on house bits/DIY .My nearest is about 16miles from me, & as i'm not yet driving i'll have to persuade the hubby so take me, i'll tell him how cheaper the food bill will be when i'm starting to produce the veg etc! (Yeah right!just a bit optimistic!ha!)
  • Just so you know if you have a "Works" near you - they are selling 3 packs of good quality seed for a quid - got some courgette's marked up at £2.50 a piece

wilkinson must be english, I've never heard of them. You can grow old sprouted potatoes if you stick them separately in a tub or bag, I did that last year.:D
