I was perusing YouTube earlier and happened upon this chap.......

    Seedtoplate.co.uk

What an innovative way to sow seeds. He has a website seedtoplate.co.uk.

Brilliant and such use for those learning.

:T Excellent, people who know what they're doing make it look so easy. He explains everything so simply, some sites that I've looked at leave me even more baffled.

Hi, I would love to join in. I am a newbie veg grower and am loving this forum. So far I have chillies on the go and some seed potatoes are chitting.

We only moved into this house at the end of july and the garden was neglected for the last year. We have been working hard since christmas to tidy it up. There is a 6x4 foot plastic greenhouse but it is full of junk, I have also had to order a new cover for it as the last one was past repair! So our job this weekend will be to clear it out, replace the cover and chop back the tree growing above it.

I'm in as well but I'll be a bit later than you lot, our frost-free date is 1st June. My garden is rock hard frozen solid still. I did some last year and got nice potatoes & onions, but lost all the lettuce and carrots. I grow loads of tomatoes too but they are indoors as the wind just ruins them. :)

  • Count me in too..:j

We grew tons last year but lost tons too to bluumin white butterflys.
Am netting all my cabbages this year.

We had great success with tomatoes and strawberrys in hanging baskets, much easier to look after as long as you water everyday.

How about this for a container garden...:rotfl:

Just a quick word to the wise for all those thinking of grwing in containers (and coming from personal experience):o.....

    1. make sure the containers have holes in the bottom for drainage.....

    2. put stones, polystyrene or broken bricks in the bottom - also to help with drainage...

    3. Don't forget compost can quickly lose its nutrients so remember to add feed if required.....

    4. Probably most important....:o.... don't forget pot grown fruit and veg need REGULAR watering......

(My erratic memory last year resulted in split toms and dead cucs!)

    Happy sowing!!! :D

I have just bought 2 packs of the morrisons flower buckets, 8 for 99p and have put holes in the bottom using a hot knife. I always seem to crack them if i use the drill. Hopefuly they will be ok for carrots, parsnips and my cucumber plants. I have plenty of broken terracotta pots to put in the bottom.

I am really looking forward to sorting out the greenhouse this weekend, it only has one shelf so i want to find something else i can use as shelfing in there. I picked up a greenhouse thermometer as well today for £1.49. Does anybody know if you can get heaters for the plastic greenhouses that dont need electric?

My seedlings seem to have taken over the house, everything I have planted so far has germinated!
