I am hoping that squash seedlings look different from sunflower seeds, as i planted them in the same little pots and can't remember which went where. lol.0

Didn't say it just said 'lettuce'. I will thin them out over the weekend and see what they develop into. I can't believe the little pots weren't labelled. Stupid.0

They are not carrots as they come through as fine hair/grass like leaves not the double "seed leaf" shown in the photo - if you look in the middle of miskool's carrot photo you'll see some grass like leaves - those are first carrot leaves. With the speed of germination I would be inclined to think lettuce rather than tomato - its also too fast for carrots!Adventure before Dementia!0

Thank you. I will treat them as lettuce then. Not that I know what to do with lettuce but I can look in my veg growers book now I can get an informed guess as to what they are!0

:rotfl:Do we need a new thread cos this one says Feb and it's March:rotfl:0

How cold is it outside? We've had frosts until a few night ago. Have you frozen them? Feel the spuds, if they are firm then bring them inside. If they are squishy then you've killed them by freezing and defrosting them.
Thank you.
They are still firm so I think the greenhouse must have kept the frost off.
Have moved them to the south facing kitchen windowsill. (wont that be too warm though)
They just have the tiniest signs of little shoots.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Hi all,
I'm at a disadvantage as I have no space in my tiny flat to bring things on indoors and then plant out. Which means, as last year, I'll be planting directly outdoors in April and May and hoping for the best! I have a couple of questions, hopefully someone can help?
I've got a small winter hardy thyme shrub bought cheaply in Focus recently and it's sitting happily on a window sill. Can I risk planting it out in a big tub now, or should I wait?
And can I think about planting out carrots in a large tub now, or again, should I wait? Last year I stuck to herbs, dwarf beans, as well as courgettes and tomatoes (from plants already established and given to me) so I don't really know what I'm doing, especially with root veg!
many thanks :-)0 -

Well i don't know whether it's right or wrong but weather permitting i will be sowing my first carrots out this weekend! The packet said from feb, so i figure they don't mind frost? Maybe pop a bit of fleece over the top if frost is forcast, until the leaves are too high that is!:D2009 - Attempting to grow my own Kitchen garden.....did it!!!

My seed pack says Feb too, so,
I planted my carrots in the raised bed last saturday in the nice warm sun.
Next morning the whole garden was frzen solid..
Does anyone know if the seeds will survive? or should I put more out in a few weeks?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
I planted some carrots out a week ago too. I suspect that they will be OK as long as the weather warms up a bit now!0
